With her newest series Got to Believe currently in its first week of airing, Kathryn Bernardo said she hopes that her fans and those of co-star Daniel Padilla’s will enjoy their newest characters, namely carefree carnival girl Chichay and lonely rich guy Joaquin. Kath said that unlike all the drama in Princess and I, the new show will have a lighter theme. “Siguro sa amin with Got To Believe, i-fo-focus naminmore on romance na siya, feeling ko magiging mas kilig na talaga lalo na sa mga teens and sa lahat. Of course with Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina, sinisiguro namin na effortless kilig, hindi masyadong effort na effort na kilig. Yung parang natural lang talaga,” she said.
As her popularity continues to grow, Kath said she is happy because she works hard to maintain a good reputation despite having detractors. “Kahit beforemaingat naman talaga ako because of my wholesome image and yung exampleka sa mga bata so ever since naman hindi yun nawawala sa isip ko and because of my endorsements now kailangan mas maging extra careful ako,” she explained.
Since she is open about her closeness to love team partner Daniel, Kath said it helps that she gets to see DJ on the set which also counts as their bonding time together. “Kasi pag sa work naman magkasama kami so yun yung time namin (laughs). Si DJnaman very understanding especially alam niya na gusto ko ituloy yung school ko so siya naman very supportive din,” she explained. Kath is currently a freshman marketing student.
Even after doing Growing Up and Princess and I with DJ, Kath admitted she would still not consider doing a kissing scene with him. “Wala pa po sana (laughs), hindi pa ako ready. Hindi ko po sure talaga pero let’s see. I’m not sure kasi bawal pa talaga pagunder 18, eh 17 years old pa lang ako so safe pa ako (laughs). Huwag pa sana. Hindi pa rin siguro ako ready kasi masyado pang maaga at saka marami pang puwedeng gawin. Huwag muna yun. Okay pa ako sa ganito. Actually mas mature yung roleko ngayon with Chichay compared kay Mikay sa Princess and I so I think step by step, hindi yung pare-pareho naman,” she explained.
Kath said she is also ready if management wants her and DJ to do separate projects, but she would rather not entertain the possibility just yet. “Ayoko muna siya sagutin kasi parang masyado pang maaga. Pero what’s good with Kathniels siguro is hindi lang nila kami sinusuportahan as a love team, sinusuportahan nila kami as Kathryn or Daniel lang and pagkami together yun yung okay sa kanila,” she admitted.
Kath said she also wants to get the chance to work with other actors in the future. “Oo naman, kasi nga dadating naman talaga yung time na i-la-love team ako sa iba, ila-loveteam siya sa iba so ganun talaga yun, kailangan i-accept namin yun,” she said.
The talented actress said she prefers to work with veteran actors from whom she can learn more about honing her craft. “Wala akong maisip ngayon kasi parang lahat sila may love team rin so kung sino na lang yung makita nilang puwede. Dream ko lang makatrabaho sa isang trabaho si John Lloyd Cruz, Mr. Piolo Pascual, Ronaldo Valdez.`Yung mga senior veterans talaga na matututo ka sa kanila. Like Vilma Santos, yun po,” she admitted.
With numerous endorsements and other showbiz commitments including Star Cinema's upcoming MMFF horror film entry Pagpag,Kath said she is not afraid to go solo. “I think ready naman ako. I think DJ rin naman. Siguro ready naman kasi kahit before pero ngayon kasi hindi naman kasi puwedeng love team forever. Dadating yung time na paghihiwalayin kami. So kung dumating yung time na yun siguro medyo ready na rin siguro. Siyempre nakakatakot and nakakalungkot kasi nga maganda na talaga yung relationship namin ni DJ pero hindi nga puwede yung ganun forever. Kahit naman ganun, I’m sure yung communicationnamin, yung friendship namin, hindi yun magbabago. Yun yung ma-pa-promise ko,” she shared.
