Contrary to popular belief, Miss Universe 2012 1st runner-up Janine Tugonon claims that she has not mercilessly dumped her non-showbiz boyfriend Jaypee Santos.
It may be recalled that Tugonon suffered from a major backlash online for several weeks after speculations arose that she allegedly broke up with Santos for The Script frontman Danny O'Donoghue.
Tugonon, during a live appearance n "The Buzz" on Sunday explained that "The truth is there's a bigger story behind that breakup. I wanna keep it private as much as possible pero hindi lang yung The Script issue eh. It's more than that."
Although she claims that she was "at fault" the decision to call it quits she says was actually mutual. But she did apologize for whatever hurt she has caused Santos.
"Yes that's one. Actually we talked even after that and right now we're really good friends," she related.
Recall that their split was made public by Tugonon during their appearance on a "KrisTV" episode last April. After that Tugonon had to go through a major bashing online but she has opted to keep silent over the issue despite everything.
To this she explained, "I kept quiet because during that time there's nothing I can say that can actually change what people think about me. Kasi yun na yun eh, it's already set in their minds."
She further clarified that while she did communicate with O'Donoghue even after they left Manila for their one-night-only concert last April, she maintained that the Irish singer didn't woo her.
"Natawa ako sa issue na we're dating. Unang una how can that happen when he's in the other side of the world," she said.
Tugonon also added, "I think we just talked. I admit I got attracted. Of course who wouldn't I've loved the band ever since."
After O'Donoghue Tugonon was linked to no less than Kapamilya actor Piolo Pascual's nephew Benjamin Alves after photos of them together surfaced on the photo sharing site Instagram.
Tugonon clarified that she is very much single as of the moment and that Alves is not her boyfriend.
"We're not even dating. It's funny because people saw us in Cinemelaya and they thought it was a date," she supplied.
