Bagging the best supporting actress award in the Cinemalaya Film Festival for her portrayal in the movie Transit was a big leap forward for Jasmine Curtis. In an interview with Push.com.ph, the actress remarked how overwhelming it was to receive such an award. “I sometimes can’t believe that I was the one who bagged that. This prestigious body of judges does not just give out awards just for the sake of giving out the titles. So for me I was really thankful that they thought that I deserved to get the award and to be named best supporting actress for my category,” she said.
Jasmine said that the award would serve as her motivation to improve on her craft and to develop on her acting skills. “It serves as a stepping stone for me, for my motivation and for my perseverance to do better in my career and of course in my acting skills. So let’s hope na I keep on moving forward and tuloy-tuloy na ‘to,” she stated.
The Filipino-Australian star revealed that she went to the open auditions of Transit. “I went to the open auditions and as soon as I got out direk Hannah (Espia, the director Transit) came up to me and she thought that I was perfect for the role so they got my details and the reading was the few weeks after that. And from then on a few months later we were in Israel filming and I’m just so glad that I auditioned for it,” she stated.
Did she ever see herself as an actress? “I think I wasn’t born to be an actress. I thought I was born to be a lawyer or a teacher, but you know I think I kind of learned how to love being an actress and embrace the perks and all the good things about the industry kasi you know I understood it. I saw how fun it was from my ate’s (Anne Curtis) point of view but when I finally jumped into it, I got to understand how fun it is to actually be the one doing it,” she shared.
She remarked that she’s fortunate enough that she’s been introduced to show business at such an early point in her life that she was able to equip herself with the necessary skills to thrive in the industry. “I wasn’t so capable in the beginning, of course as a newbie like in Hollywood people aren’t hired unless they already have the skills but I’m fortunate enough to be kind of still learning along the way and get the project, so yeah it was more of that. I grew to be an actress rather than I was born to be one,” she said.
