Though they are now working separately, Julia Montes stressed that she’s able to maintain her solid friendship with Kathryn Bernardo. “Parang siguro hindi kami ‘yung friendship na laging lumalabas, or nagkakausap sa phone, pero pag nagkasama kami alam mo ‘yung lalim ng usap namin andon pa rin, na parang lagi kaming magkasama at lagi kaming magkausap,” she said.
Julia added that they even consider each other as sisters. “Tsaka tinuturing namin ‘yung isa’t isa di lang magkaibigan, sisters talaga. Ate niya ako,” she said.
Despite being compared often to each other, the actress remarked that there is no competition between the two of them. “‘Yung tao sa paligid namin pinagbabangga kami, pero dahil nga magkaibigan kami at bago pa lang kami magsimula iba na ‘yung friendship namin. Hindi lang ‘yung friendship dahil magka-work lang kami. Kumbaga may lalim. Kahit anong pagbangga sa amin, wala, never naging issue sa amin,” she commented.
On the issue that Julia is already upstaging Kathryn when it comes to acting because she’s doing more mature roles, the Muling Buksan Ang Puso star commented, “Siguro kasi nasasabi ‘yan lang ng tao kasi mas matured ‘yung tinahak kong role at siya ‘yung nasa age niya pa rin pero pareho pa rin naman kami. Iba lang talaga ‘yung kumbaga ‘yung category ng work namin as teenagers, as Kathryn and Julia.”
Another star is being compared to her is Julia Barretto who is also to top-bill a new show soon. When asked by the press if she’s threatened by the budding star, the actress commented, “Ako po para sa akin, hindi naman po siguro kasi magkakaiba naman kami, bawat artista may sari-sariling personalidad, character.” She added that they all started differently in the industry, thus, there is no need to compare. “Siguro ibang-iba kami kasi ako galing ako sa kiddie shows, kumbaga iba ‘yung pinagmulan namin.”
