Claudine Barretto Applies for TPO Against Husband Raymart Santiago

<div><img src='' alt='073013-clau_main.jpg' align='left' border='0' height='290' width='305'>On TV Patrol’s Star Patrol last July 29, Claudine Barretto couldn’t stop crying as she came out of the office of the clerk of court at the Marikina Regional Trial Court. She applied for a Temporary Protection Order (TPO) under RA 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act against her husband Raymart Santiago.</div><div><br/></div><div>In the report, Claudine’s camp appealed to the court to direct Raymart to maintain a distance of no less than 300 meters from Claudine and her children. Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, Claudine’s lawyer, didn’t specify why things led to this. “He has committed a lot of those physical, verbal, psychological, even economic abuse. With this, she has reached the point of no return in her marriage with Mr. Santiago.”</div><div><br/></div><div>Claudine said she believes she has a strong case against Raymart and she has contusions to prove this. Atty. Topacio stressed that the contusions were not self-inflicted. “Marami po, kasi there was an instance that the act was sufficient to cause injuries in various parts of the body. We have witnesses and other proof to show that these are not self-inflicted wounds.”</div><div><br/></div><div>Claudine kept mum, but the report said she was asking for prayers to give her strength during this trying time in her life. When asked where she’s getting her strength, Claudine said, “Sa Diyos.”</div><div><br/></div><div>The court failed to grant Claudine’s application for a TPO on July 29, but they will hear Claudine’s appeal for protection from her husband on July 30.</div><div><br/></div><div>ABS-CBN News tried to contact Raymart, but he wouldn’t answer their call. Meanwhile, Randy Santiago said it’s out of character for his brother Raymart to hurt women.</div><div><br/></div>
