061813-direkcathy_main.jpgDirector Cathy Garcia-Molina admitted that she’s quite nervous about how the people would react to Star Cinema’s newest movie offering Four Sisters And A Wedding, which combines the elements of comedy, romance, and family drama. “Kasi ayoko talaga mag-family drama kasi isa yang bagay na masyado malapit sa puso ko. Kapag pamilya pinagusapan ayoko siya pasukin. So I asked Star Cinema na gagawin ko lang ito kung light yung theme at kung hahayaan niyo ako makapagpatawa ng konti. Ayoko ng mabigat. Pumayag naman sila. Ngayon lang ako lalabas ng rom-com so it’s somehow a big step for me.”

Since the movie top-bills some of ABS-CBN’s finest stars Angel Locsin, Toni Gonzaga, Bea Alonzo, Shaina Magdayao, and Enchong Dee, Direk Cathy was honest enough to say that giving them equal exposure was the toughest challenge. “I didn’t say equal exposure. In fact, yun ang [klinaro] ko sa kanila, na I can’t promise equal exposure in the film because at the end of the day, it’s the story being told that's important. But I tried giving them equal treatment from me, making them feel na pareho ang importance nila sa pelikula whether mas marami exposure nila o hindi.”

Direk Cathy shared that she had a big hand in assigning which character fit her five lead stars. Asked if they also contributed in developing their characters, she explained that it’s more of being open to their comments or suggestions. “Sa script hindi masyado kasi siyempre it’s between the writer and me. Pero halimbawa sabihin nila, ‘Parang direk pwede bang ganito ganyan ‘yang character ko?’ Lalo na si Angel, siya yung medyo maano sa ganyan, ‘Direk gagawin ko ba talaga ‘to? Bakit ‘di po ganyan ganyan.’ So i-e-explain mo ngayon. Medyo mahirap kapag apat ang pinapapaliwanagan mo.”

But she was quick to say that she’s really happy with the performance of her stars. Although she would jokingly complain about how talkative they can be on the set, they all delivered what was required of them once the camera starts rolling. “Si Bea pinakamalayo ang character. Sobrang complicated character ni Bea. Slightly bida-kontrabida siya rito. Alam naman ng lahat kung gaano kabait si Bea in real life. Hindi kakayanin magkontrabida. So closest si Toni. Maybe Shaina as well. Pare-pareho silang magagaling. Tayo may billing. Pero para sa akin underrated at magaling na artista si Shaina. I’m so happy with what she gave in this film. Isa sa favorite scenes ko yung scene niya.”

As for the dramatic parts, Direk Cathy was proud of the confrontation scene between Angel and Bea in the film. “Malupit siya. Alam niyo naman ako ‘pag nag-confrontation scene, medyo controlled. Mahirap magcontrol ng dapat sumasabog na. Maganda yung character ng dalawa tapos maganda yung script so natuwa ako.
