KZ Tandingan reveals that her debut album has a lot of original songs.
After being hailed as X-Factor
’s grand winner in 2012, KZ Tandingan’s self-titled debut album under Star Records is now out in the market. In an exclusive interview with Push.com.ph
, the young singer shared what she undertook to record her very first album.
“Medyo naging matagal bago nagkaroon ako ng album since nanalo ako, pero base naman sa naging produkto ng naging recording namin, maganda naman ‘yung naging resulta. Pero wala pa po ‘yung grand album launch. Pinaghahandaan pa po namin,” she remarked.
KZ relayed that her record is mainly composed of original tracks but includes some covers. “Mostly original, dinagdag lang ‘yung ‘Scared to Death,’ ‘Huwag Ka ng Umiyak’ at tsaka ‘Killing Me Softly,’” she said. The singer shared that a song which she penned way back in college is now part of the album. “’Yung song na sinulat ko in college pa, ni-record namin siya tapos ‘yung na record namin na ‘yun, ‘yun ‘yung mismo ang nalagay [sa album],” she relayed. KZ conveyed that it was a song about young love which she experienced as a college girl. “It’s a cute love song nung mga time na may crush ako. ‘Yung time na the feeling of being in love, ganon,” she said.
The X-factor grand winner admitted that it was a big risk to include more original songs than covers, which is not usually the case with most OPM records nowadays. “’Yung risk na tinake namin na mostly originals, ‘yun nga it’s a big risk kasi parang di ba mas madaling sabayan ng tao ‘yung mga kantang alam na nila pero ginawan mo lang ng version. Pero giving them a new song and a sound is hard na baka may tendency na hindi nila masabayan,” she commented.
Nonetheless, KZ is proud of what came to be her very first album and remarked that artistry is one essential thing that she upholds in her work. “Never lose your sense of artistry. Sometimes we tend to be safe para iwasan ‘yung failure, ganito, ganyan, pero nawawala tayo sa sarili natin in the process,” she said.
As a product of reality singing competition, KZ shared her advice to all the aspiring singers who want to join reality TV contests like her. “Huwag na huwag silang titigil sa pag-practice, sa pag-hone ng craft nila kasi hindi matatapos ang process ng learning as an artist,” she remarked. She also said to always perform for God and to commit once self to every performance. “You don’t perform for yourself, you don’t perform for the people who are watching, pero you are performing for God. At kailangang walang maliit na show, walang malaki na show, as long as in-ask ka na mag-perform kailangang ibigay mo ang best mo.”
