After watching his youngest son Daniel Padilla perform in front of a jam-packed Araneta Coliseum last April 30, Rommel Padilla admitted he never expected that DJ would already be staging a major concert by his 18th birthday. The teen actor is reportedly the youngest performer ever to fill up the major concert venue.
“Hindi namin talaga naplano ito ng ganito. Ang gusto talaga namin sa kanya kumbaga mag-aral, lahat ng mga anak namin yun naman ang gusto namin, magtapos lahat ng pag-aaral,” he said backstage after Daniel Live!
Rommel said he was impressed by his son’s dedication when it came to rehearsing for the concert. “Wow, ang galing! Pinagbigyan niya talaga ng panahon ang pag-ensayo at tinatanong ko siya, 'Ano anak bukas na yun ah, nininerbiyos ka ba? Sabi niya, 'Oo pero kayang kaya, Papa!’” he recalled.
The older Padilla said he was not surprised at the huge turnout of fans. “For quite some time nung umpisa silang maglabas ng tickets, binibigyan na kami ng update ng Star Magic na malakas na, nauubos na yung VIP, wala na yung Lower box, actually ako nung isang araw nagpahabol pa ako ng ticket eh. So I think lahat ng ito sa mga fans marami talagang salamat dahil lubos ninyong pinaligaya ang aming anak na si DJ na nakamtan niya ang isa sa kanyang mga pangarap,” he said.
Rommel admitted that because of his brother Robin and DJ’s busy schedules, the shooting for their movie Kuratong Baleleng has been put on hold since late last year. “Actually three fourths tapos na eh. So nahinto lang kami kasi na-busy si DJ, na-busy si Robin. So ngayon mag-re-resume na kami. Si Robin nandun, si Kylie, si Rap-Rap, si RJ, marami, marami kaming surprise guests. Action itong movie na drama. Actually hindi siya remake eh. Kasi ang tinutukan namin sa storya nila is paano nag-umpisa eh. Kung bakit nagkaroon ng Kuratong Baleleng,” he explained.
When asked if there was a chance his brother BB Gandanghari would also be part of the Padilla-produced film, Rommel joked, “Liniligawan pa namin (laughs). Si Royette ang kasama din namin sa pelikulang ito.”
The loving father said he feels lucky to get the chance to work with his children and siblings in a movie project. “Okay ito. Kasi ever since magaan talaga ang turingan namin, parang magkakaibigan talaga,” he revealed.
Rommel admitted he is now enjoying a revival in his career partly due to DJ’s rising popularity. “Oo, actually nagising lahat eh. Kumbaga parang may booster di ba?” he said. The doting father said he knows DJ can still go farther in showbiz if given the chance. “Mahaba pa itong biyahe ni DJ at siya rin yun din ang pananaw niya. Kaya talagang matagal pa ang kanyang gustong i-share sa kanyang mga fans,” he admitted.
