Parang catch 22 situation kasi by this time, parang a lot of people have formed their own opinions. And I do realize na kung ano pong sasabihin ko may entail a lot of major consequences. And kaya pinagusapan namin ni Aga we will allow it to follow its due process. Pero having said that, what I can say is that sobra akong nagpapasalamat talaga sa naging experience naming ni Aga. What we’ve been through just made me love Aga even more. Because talagang, if I loved him a million times now I love him one hundred million more times because of what he did and what he went through. Si Aga na pinakita niya na may paninindigan siya, he fought for what he believed in and from the very beginning maraming nagsasabi sa kanya na naging tutol sa desisyon niya na pumasok sa panibagong larangan. But it was his desire, his interest, ang kanyang hangarin that kept him going and really gave him the strength to push through with this endeavor,” emosyonal na pahayag ng ex-beauty queen.
Madamdamin din na sinabi ni Charlene na nakita niya kung paano lumaban ang kanyang asawa para sa kanilang karapatan at ng mga mamamayan. “We all know, in the past year there have been many times to discredit Aga and I, and I feel, you know from taking away from us our right to vote, to the residency, hanggang sa citizenship at kung ano-ano pa ang pinagdaanan naming in the past year. But I feel, kung ano po yung nangyari sa amin it is a personal victory within itself that umabot po kami dito. Na lumabas yung pangalan ni Aga sa balota and during this whole process, I say I’m so much proud of Aga kasi he showed so much strength. Alam po niya yung laban na ito ay di magiging madali para sa kanya but still he went through it against all odds. And I really just admire him even more today because yung laban ni Aga, there was a point in time this whole thing, wasn’t about Aga anymore. But it was really the fight for the people. And through this process, we’ve made many friends, a lot of friendships and a lot of people supported us all the way.”
Marami din daw lessons na natutunan silang mag-asawa lalo na siya na dati naman ay walang alam sa politika. “Sobra po talaga, overwhelming talaga ang pagmamahal sa amin ni Aga. And there are many things that you learn in a journey like this. One thing that I have learned that I say til today, is that I’ve learned to speak up, I learned to have my voice. And I have learned and gained the strength and courage to say, it’s okay na ipaglaban niyo po ang inyong karapatan. That’s one of the major lessons I’ve learned here. Another one, we never really know what happens in our life. There are obstacles thrown our way but we really don’t have the answers. I may not know why ganito po ang nangyari sa amin ngayon but I know one day I’ll be able to look back and say, ‘ay kaya pala.’ There’s so much I want to say but I am limited to the legal parameters that come with this situation. And during the last two weeks of elections, celebrating my birthday, which by the way was one of the best birthday celebrations I had, nagcelebrate kami sa baranggay namin. Nagkaroon kami ng sayawan tapos nagkaroon kami ng fiesta, mother’s day tapos elections, tapos there was so much happening and it’s amazing how so much strength you actually have knowing when you’re fighting for the intentions of other people.”
At sa huli naiiyak na sinabi ni Charlene na nagbago ang pananaw niya sa buhay matapos ang eleksyon na ito. “Mas naging malawak po ang sense of responsibility ko. Kasi siyempre kasi kapag bata ka, ang iniisip mo lang yung own personal interests mo.At the point, through something like this, you realize you can make a difference in someone’s life. But you just have to take the risk and I don’t regret any moment of it.”
