Shamcey Supsup on her non-showbiz boyfriend: 'Para kaming isang linggong pag-ibig'

She revealed that they developed romantic feelings for each other in a span of one week. “Kwento ko nga sa Kris TV para kaming isang linggong pagibig. Lunes kami nagkakilala, Tuesday nag-Facebook kami, Wednesday text [messaging], Thurs phone call, Friday lahat na yun, Saturday we met again. Tapos Sunday pinaguusapan na namin yung future,” said the newest brand ambassador of Watsons’ More Value, More Life campaign in a one-on-one interview with Push.abs-cbn.com recently.

Although she had hesitations about entertaining a suitor back then, Shamcey shared that Lloyd was persistent about pursuing her. “That Sunday sabi ko sa kanya, ‘wag muna tayo magkita. Hindi pa ako nagpupunta sa Ms. Universe nun eh, ang dami kong work, kailangan ko mag-concentrate sa training, hindi ko kaya na nandyan ka, nakaka-distract ka. Tapos parang sabi niya hindi raw, in the future raw ganito ganyan, maiintindihan tayo ng parents natin so kung anu-ano sinasabi niya.” So Shamcey gave him a chance and they became a couple after a month-long courtship. “He’s my first boyfriend,” Shamcey added.

Looking back, the beauty queen was often teased by her friends that she’d never get married because of her high standards when it comes to the qualities that she’s looking for in a boyfriend. “Sobrang specific ng mga gusto ko—gusto ko matangkad sa akin, kailangan professional, graduate, minimum college degree, kailangan mabait, family-oriented, Christian, stable… very specific talaga.

“So nung mga 23 or 24 years old ako, nag-pray ako na, bakit ganon, baka wala talaga. Should I settle for something less than I want? Pero hindi ko kaya, kung wala, ‘wag na lang. Sabi ko sana before ako mag-25 years old [makita ko na yung right guy for me]. I met him during my birthday.” Shamcey is turning 27 on May 16.

At this point in their relationship, Shamcey confidently said that she and Lloyd are stronger than ever. Asked if they’re getting married anytime soon, Shamcey cheerfully showed her ringless finger. “Wala pa. Pero we’re sure naman na we’re going to be together. We’ve been talking about it. Pero wala pang definite. Ayoko rin pangunahan. Gusto namin, once it’s sure saka namin sasabihin. Kasi mahirap naman yung napaguusapan in public tapos ‘di naman pala matutuloy.

Shamcey further shared that she spent the recent Holy Week break with Lloyd and his family abroad. “Nag-tour kami sa Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah… Although yun lang time namin magkasama kasi inaasikaso nila yung family business.” Did he propose marriage to her there? “Ay hindi.”
