Without being emotional about it, Sunshine Cruz admitted that her heart got “exhausted” from all the pain that husband Cesar Montano had caused her, which led to her decision to start over without him. “Oo kasi tao lang tayo, napapagod at nasasaktan. Pero nandiyan naman ang Diyos. Kung tutuusin nga parang wala naman ako dapat ireklamo, kasi lahat ng nangyari sa akin it made me a stronger person,” said Sunshine during the grand press con of her comeback teleserye Dugong Buhay held last night at the ABS-CBN compound.
Yet despite her troubles with Cesar, many were surprised when she posted on her Instagram account a photo of their whole family during her daughter’s graduation last week. Apparently, she and Cesar are civil towards each other when it comes to their children. “Of course anak namin mag-graduation, andaming awards ng anak namin, very proud kami, talagang andaming recognitions. Of course tatay yun, tinext talaga ng principal na kailangan magpunta kami dun and wala naman problema kung magkita. Piniktyuran ko pa siya, nagpa-picture pa kami. And after that inaya pa niya kami maglunch. I was there for lunch with them. Wala namang problema.”
Sunshine further explained that she wouldn’t deprive Cesar of being a father to their children just because of their marital squabbles. She calmly added that they have come to terms with how they will manage taking care of their kids especially now that she’s back in showbiz. “Kung ano man nilagay ko sa Instagram, it came from my heart kasi Buboy (as Cesar is fondly called by family and close friends) is really a good father, he’s a good provider and he’s really generous. So as a father, hindi ko ipagdadamot sa kanya yung anak ko, anak niya rin yun. At napakabuti niya sa mga anak ko kaya ‘pag nagte-taping ako nasa kanya yung kids. Kanina lang natapos kami 10AM so sa kanya natulog yung kids. Wala namang problema. Nagte-text kami with regards the children, dinala daw niya sa nail spa, blah blah blah. Sabi ko thank you for doing that.”
Sunshine admitted, however, that she’s not yet ready to deal with questions about whether or not they can work things out at this point in time. “Only God knows. I don’t know. Pero sa ngayon talaga, nakafocus muna ako sa mga anak ko at sa trabaho. Huwag muna, pabayaan na muna natin ang isa’t isa.”
Asked if Cesar is still making an effort to reach out to her, Sunshine did not elaborate and simply answered that she only wishes him well. “Tanungin niyo siya. Ayan na naman yung kulot ko, yung dugo ko nabubuhay. Hindi, ako, ang isang tao kapag mahal mo yung tao, gusto mo kung ano magpapasaya sa kanya, kung saan siya sasaya.”
One thing is clear though, Sunshine knows that her love for Cesar will always be there no matter what. “The love I would not deny. He's my first love, my first boyfriend, my first everything. So ang pagmamahal, kahit naman sa kanya sinabi ko, it will always be there. Kasi talagang minahal mo at marami kang isinakripisyo kaya ‘di mo pwede sabihin na after a month ay wala na. Hindi mawawala yun. Kahit pa siguro magkaroon kami ng magkaibang buhay, nandiyan yung pagmamahal ko sa kanya. Siya ang tatay ng mga anak namin at kamukhang kamukha niya yung bunso ko. Meron akong little Buboy na babae.”
At the end of the interview, the entertainment press finally asked Sunshine how she feels about Krista Miller’s recent statement that she’s willing to talk to her and clear the air between them. Krista, who’s the alleged third party in Sunshine’s marital troubles with Cesar, categorically stated that she’s not having an affair with the actor and has never accepted any gifts from him, except for a jewelry box which he gave to all the cast and staff of their movie last Christmas. Sunshine on the other hand avoided the question and merely replied instead, “Dugong Buhay panoorin ni’yo ‘yan, April 8 na.”
