Janella Salvador admits she used to be very shy before joining the cast of 'Be Careful With My Heart.'
More popularly known for her role as Nikki, the eldest daughter of “Sir Chief” in the Kapamilya hit daytime series Be Careful With Your Heart,
Janella Salvador said she never expected her first television project to become this big. “No, hindi talaga. Lalo na pag
mall show punong puno talaga. Pero
I’m starting to get sanay na
months na naman ang
show,” she shared.
Janella said her character Nikki has definitely matured as the show’s story also developed. “When I got this role I was happy because I was so, ‘Let’s go! Let’s try this!’ ako. Hindi naman mahirap
. Even if in person I’m not that loud like Nikki, I wanted to play her naman
. Right now she became kinder not only kay
Maya (Jodi Sta. Maria’s character), but she became kinder to everyone. nag-grow na din siya
. She’s becoming a teenager, as Papa Chen said (laughs),” she told Push.abs-cbn.com
As part of one of the most popular shows on the Kapamilya network, Janella said she gets recognized in public more often now. Her first reaction to the instant fame? “Oh my gee! Haha hindi joke lang. (laughs). I just say ‘Hi,’ yun lang. Well dati kasi super awkward and mahiyain ako. As in super mahiyain ako. I guess I became a little more confident now because of the show,” she added.
Janella also admitted to being close with her co-star and “kuya” in the series, Jerome Ponce. “Makulit yun. Totoo naman kahit sa totoong buhay, mahilig siyang mang-asar (laughs) G-R-R siya!” she said.
Janella also shared how nice the show’s lead stars Richard Yap and Jodi Sta. Maria are to her even off-cam. “He’s very funny, he likes to make faces like kunwari pag nandidiri siya, ganun (laughs). Tapos si Tita Jods, she’s very talkative and she’s funny din,” she admitted. The 15-year-old actress said even she gets “kilig” by the pair’s onscreen chemistry. “Yes! Lalo na nung nahimatay siya (laughs). And lalo na pag nakikita namin sa TV yung mga scenes nila,” she said.
As part of the recently launched batch of Star Magic Circle talents, Janella said she feels very lucky to be chosen out of more than 1,000 hopefuls. “I felt so happy like I was just eating at that time and then I found out, wow. And then many people dream to be launched in Star Magic and I’m so thankful na kasama ako. Right now in our batch I’m closest to Michelle Vito, Jane Oineza, and Jerome Ponce. Because si Michelle ka-close ko na last year pa because of the personality workshops. Tapos si Jane ngayon ko lang din siya na-meet pero close na kaagad kami,” she explained.
As the daughter of theater actress Jenine Desiderio, Janella said she is happy her mom supports her choice to go into acting on television. “Well, she didn’t pressure me naman kasi, she just let me choose. And if I enter theater ma-pe-pressure ako ng sobra kasi nga I think she was really good in Miss Saigon so I can’t really compare with her. But I love watching plays. My mom has a play now sa CCP, its called Ibalong,” she said.
Aside from acting, Janella also enjoys playing the piano and guitar in her spare time. She also enjoys listening to music whenever she can. “In the future, I would like to practice more on drama and then I would like to go on Maalaala Mo Kaya one day as the lead. Actually I love the acting of Bea Alonzo. Her eyes are expressive talaga,” she admitted.
