BB Gandanghari on nephew Daniel Padilla: 'I'm very proud of this boy'

030713-bb_main.jpgBB Gandanghari is a proud “tito” or “tita” to his nephew Daniel Padilla, who is one of the hottest teen celebrities today. “I’m very proud of this boy kasi parang siya ‘yung sumusunod sa yapak namin, di ba? At least alam mo may sumusunod at maganda naman ‘yung suporta ng mommy’t daddy niya.” Daniel’s parents are actress Karla Estrada and actor Rommel Padilla.

BB also added that he hopes that Daniel will continue the good job he is currently doing. “Sana ipagpatuloy niya pa. I’m really proud of this boy,” added the former actor known as Rustom Padilla.

BB said that there are occasional family gatherings where he gets to see Daniel. “We see each other every time na may mga get-together si Rommel and he’s (Daniel) very respectful, ‘yun ‘yung gusto ko sa batang ‘yan, eh. He just takes me as I am.”

While some members of BB’s family do not yet fully embrace his new identity, he said that Daniel acknowledges him and calls him Tita BB. “Tuwang-tuwa naman ako,” he beamed.

Apart from Daniel, BB revealed that his mom, former actress Eva Cariño, is also becoming more tolerant of him as compared to before. “Si mama now palagay ko dumarating na siya sa punto na nage-gets na niya. Kumbaga unti-unti na niyang natatangap si BB… in fact manonood siya [ng stage play ko na Halik ng Tarantula.]”

BB is currently doing the controversial stage play, which will run until March 9. The said play requires BB to do sensitive scenes, which involves some nudity to some degree, as well as with other actors. However, he clarified that these sensitive scenes are executed in good taste and the story itself is something to watch out for.

He related that before he convinced his mom to watch, she asked him if she could stand the daring scenes that might shock her. BB pointed out to his mom, “Pero sabi ko, ‘Eh artista ka, eh… kaya dapat maintindihan mo ‘yon.’

He even mentioned that brother Rommel, who will also watch the play, backed him up. “Umano naman si Rommel… [sabi niya], ‘Tsaka, Ma, bilang nanay obligasyon mo ‘yan. Suportahan mo si BB.’”

BB said that he is elated by the support of his brother and his mom. “Rommel is actually watching. Ang nakakatuwa n’yan ang sabi nila sa akin… ang manonood si Rommel [at] halos lahat ng pamangkin kong lalaki. Di ba, very interesting?” BB said.

He was very vocal about the fact the acceptance he gets from some family members makes him feel loved. “Masaya. That makes me [keep] going, kasi napakahirap kung hindi… kasi, di ba, kung alam mong ikaw lang mag-isa… ‘yung simpleng gano’ng support, it really means a lot, especially sa ganitong klaseng proyektong [na] ang hirap [gawin],” he explained.

On the other hand, BB also hinted that he is affected by the fact that some members of his family do not yet fully accept him, including brother Robin Padilla. Nevertheless, he is hopeful that they will eventually talk to him and accept him for who he is.
