Dominic Ochoa talks about upcoming death anniversary of Rico Yan

032413-domi_main.jpgAfter being part of hit Kapamilya shows like Rosalka, 100 Days, May Bukas Pa and Princess and I, Dominic Ochoa said he is excited to start work on another teleserye soon. “Start na kami soon. Kakaabang abang din ito dahil parang Spanish telenovela ito eh na gagawin natin dito sa istasyon na ito. We start taping after Holy Week and we’ll be taping out of town so tingnan natin kung anong kalalabasan,” he said.

Dominic attended the Jeepney TV presscon for the Whattamen: Reunited special which will air on March 24, Sunday, at 9 pm on SkyCable. His sitcom Whattamen, which ran for almost four years and starred Marvn Agustin and the late Rico Yan, was a memorable working experience for him. “Masaya, masaya mapanuod eh. It’s bringing back good times. It’s not all about the money, it’s bringing back good times. It’s like taking a look at old pictures. Ngayon kasi puro nasa computer na lang yung mga photos di ba? So sometimes when you fix your stuff and see old pictures, I think that’s the kind of feeling na na-e-experience ko when I watch old shows. And it was just ten years ago, yung isa three years ago yung May Bukas Pa. Nakikita mo yung differences, nakikita mo yung mga pupuwede mo pang improvements at yung maturity mo napapansin mo rin,” he said.

With the coming death anniversary of Rico Yan on March 29, Dominic said he will always miss his dear friend. “Pag nagkikita kami ni Marvin, of course pinag-uusapan namin yun, siyempre mami-miss mo yung tao. Pero we all have to move on. Kumbaga naging parte na siya ng buhay natin at nagpaalam na rin so okay na rin yun, parang ganun na lang. Let’s just face it, it won't happen again. It will really not happen again,” he admitted.

Dominic recalled what kind of work atmosphere they had on the set of the sitcom. “It was pure fun because we tape we start at 9 am then we have lunch. We resume at 1 then we’re done by 5 pm so basically by 6pm we’re having coffee already, or we’re out with our loved ones. So it was a family na get-together, we finish early then enjoy lang. Mas madali kasi magtrabaho at mas mabilis pag magkakaibigan lahat. Walang mahirap katrabaho, yung tuloy-tuloy lang. Basically it was pure fun. Wala na akong ibang pe-puwedeng adjective na maisip. Masaya kami,” he revealed.

Dominic also admitted that Rico's passing took a while for him to accept. “It’s been 11 years already so lumipas na yung panahon. Before we were able to move on, mga two years din bago kami naka-move on ng ganun. It was really hard for us. But I strongly believe na yun ang destination niya. It was God’s destiny na dun siya dalhin and siguro for me mas maganda na nga yung exit niya sa mundong ito. Baka he might be struggling now or anything. Mas masaya ako na ganun na lang, mahirap man pero wala tayong magagawa kung yun ang kumbaga God’s will yun eh,” he explained.

The talented actor, whose series May Bukas Pa is also being aired on Jeepney TV, admitted he is happy that the younger generation will get to know Rico through the re-runs of Whattamen on the cable channel. “It’s good na other artists will get to know him. May iba kasing mga bata hindi rin inabutan yung kaibigan natin, para makita din nila. Maraming magagaling na ngayon eh. I think ang kulang lang sa mga kabataan ngayon is yung nakakalimutan nila yung mga pinanggagalingan or yung history ng ginagawa mo, whether it’s racing cars or sa pagtratrabaho natin dito, nakakalimutan nila yung mga taong mga nagsimula. Maraming mga ganun eh. Ako kasi I make it a point to study not just yung present but of course yung obra maestro, yung mga ginawa nung dati. Ano bang difference nung acting dati at ano difference nung acting ngayon? You have to see kasi kung bakit ganun kasikat yung ganun. You’ll see the difference if you do your homework,” he said.
