John Lloyd Cruz on why he didn't court Sarah Geronimo: 'At that time hindi naman talaga pwede'

He was quick to defend her from people who criticize her for being too open about her thoughts and emotions, especially during the latter part of her hosting stint on <i>Sarah G Live</i>. “<i>Yung mga pinagdadaanan niya, normal na pinagdadaanan ng normal</i> 24-year-old girl. <i>Masyado siyang totoo. Kung anong gusto niyang bitawan na salita, maaaring hindi niya gaanong napagisipan, pero kailangan tanggapin.</i> Give her a break.<i> Babae rin siya, nasasaktan. Kailangan mo palagpaasin. Lahat ng babae dumadaan diyan. Wala namang</i> perfect <i>na tao. Ang pinakamaganda diyan</i> how you rise above it. <i>Kaya niya mag</i>-apologize, <i>kaya niya aminin kung anong ginawa niya </i>and then move on.” </div><div><br/></div><div>If anything, John Lloyd admires Sarah more for being brave enough to deal with the other aspects of her life despite her disappointment in love.  “<i>Kasi si </i>Sarah is often perceived as Pop Star Princess, <i>nagkakamali, nakakaencounter ng problema sa pagibig, sa trabaho... Pero</i> in the end, Sarah is Sarah, [<i>ordinaryong</i>]<i> tao. Ilang taon ka na ba?</i> [Turning] 25? <i>Pwede na pala. Bibilib ka sa kanya kasi pupunta siya sa trabaho gagawin niya kailangan niya gawin, gagawin niya ng</i> 100 percent,<i> yung</i> dedication <i>hindi nawawala. Yun ang nakita ko sa kanya, yung</i> professionalism,<i> yung </i>dedication <i>sa paggawa ng pelikula. Hindi nabawasan, mas dumoble. Wala akong masasabi na parang nabawasan pagtingin ko sa kanya</i>.” </div><div><br/></div><div>Truth be told though, John Lloyd admitted that he stopped himself from courting Sarah in the past because he respected her parents’ desire for her not to entertain any suitors just yet. “<i>Oo kasi, bago ngayon ha, </i>at that time<i> talagang hindi naman talaga pwede. May</i> rules<i> yung kanyang nanay at tatay at </i>you have to respect that. So <i>kung ‘di pwede at kung ‘di niyo kaya panindigan—halimbawa yung isang lalaki, alam mo naman yung </i>rules.<i> Kung alam mo</i>, don’t try to break them <i>kasi nandun yun sa simula eh</i>.” </div><div><br/></div><div>Although he didn’t directly answer when asked if he also fell in love with Sarah, John Lloyd claimed that there will always be a special connection between them. “<i>Ang alam ko lang kami ni </i>Sarah we have this very special connection <i>na mahirap ipaliwanag. Kaming dalawa lang ang makakaintindi. Hindi mo alam kung paano nagsimula, hindi mo alam kung pano matatapos at kung saan papunta, yun yun. Yun lang yun.</i>”  </div><div><br/></div><div>At this point, he’s just happy that they are more comfortable now with the kind of friendship that they have. “So far <i>ito yung pinakamaganda naming relasyon. Siguro kagaya dun sa</i> story, <i>nag</i>-mature<i> yung dalawa, nagkaroon ng</i> greatest learnings <i>sa buhay nila, and sumabay rin siguro yun sa amin.</i>”</div>
