Toni Gonzaga faces another challenge as the host of the Kapamilya network’s newest on-air singing competition, The Voice of the Philippines. “The Voice of the Philippines—yun ang title niya dito sa Pilipinas—ay isang bagong reality singing competition that will showcase the best singers in the country na ang ika-capitalize namin dito ay ang kanilang boses. Yung pinaka-exciting na part sa programang ito ay yung blind auditions kung saan await yung mga singers ng nakatalikod ang mga judges so sila ay huhusgahan base sa kanilang mga boses, hindi base sa itsura, sa looks or sa dating nila. And this program will encourage, inspire, and develop singers and not humiliate them on stage. So they will be coached to help them be the best singers that they can be. Walang masyadong negative kasi it’s a positive show. Lahat dito ay to help the performers and not to discourage them or put them down,” she shared. Toni will be the local counterpart of US host Carson Daly.
With her relationship with Paul Soriano doing well, the 29-year-old host said they are not too far from walking down the aisle. But she admitted they have not set a specific date yet. “So far sa ngayon, dati nasasagot ko yan eh. Ngayon hindi ko na masagot kung ano yung hinihintay ko. Ano, naalala ko dati nung initerview si Beyonce, it took them seven years before they tied the knot. Sabi ko, ‘Kung si Beyonce seven, ibig sabihin may two years pa ako.’ kasi sabi niya, ‘You have to have your own life before you become someone else’s wife.’ So I’m enjoying my life now before I become someone’s wife,” she said.
Despite rumors saying they are already engaged, Toni clarified time and again, “Hindi ano. Wala nga akong ring. Hindi pa sa ngayon. Darating tayo diyan.”
Toni admitted she hopes Paul will be her first and last boyfriend. “So far, sa prayers ko, yan ang dasal ko. Kasi I entered this relationship hindi para sa trial and error and testing testing tapos palit palit agad. When I entered this one, I was committed to this and I promised myself in God’s grace na he’ll still be the same man I’ll say ‘yes’ to at the altar,” she admitted.
The talented host said she and her future husband are still busy pursuing their respective careers right now. “Hindi ako naiinip. Siguro siya, ako hindi pa naman ako naiinip. Actually siya din parang na-e-enjoy din niya yun. He has his own space, he has his own time sa trabaho then I have my own,” she shared.
The Voice of the Philippines host said it would probably be two years before they get married, but she is happy that she already has her parents’ blessing to do it. “I think oo. Sa ngayon parang okay na rin naman sila. Nung una parang hindi pa masyado pero ngayon parang okay okay na kasi nakarating naman kami sapunto na okay naman. May tiwala na. 28 na ako,” she said.
