Bea Alonzo stressed that the fact that she’s considered the bigger star than her boyfriend Zanjoe Marudo has never been an issue between them. They’ve always been supportive of each other’s career from the very start. “If it was an issue in our relationship, I wouldn’t be able to answer it properly or siguro matitigilan ako. Pero hindi siya issue eh. Hindi naging issue na I came in earlier in this business, hindi issue na mas kumita yung pelikula... Wala siyang insecurities, he's happy for all my achievements, he's happy for me, he's proud of me,” said Bea during the premiere of Olay Conversations with Boy Abunda held at White Space last Wednesday night, February 13.
The drama actress further shared that she often asks Zanjoe for advice about her career plans. “Whenever I try to make decisions, lagi ko siya kino-consult tungkol dun. Most of the time tama siya. He has always been supportive. He's everything that I need. He pushes me to be better.”
They are also comfortable enough to give constructive criticisms about their respective movie performances. “Sa mga movies, ganyan kami. Like The Mistress, he watched with me on a regular screening. I watched his movie, One More Try, on a regular screening. We give each other feedback.”
Although she admittedly wants to be the only special girl in her man’s life, Bea claimed that she never gets jealous of Zanjoe’s love scenes with his leading ladies. In fact, she just laughed when she learned that he revealed some skin in his recent film One More Try.
“Parang joke joke lang namin yun. Hindi ko alam na nagpakita pala siya ng butt. Sinabi niya sa akin jokingly, so I didn’t think it was true. So nung tinanong ko kay Inang (Director Olive Lamasan), ‘Nagpakita raw hindi naman.’ ‘Oo, totoo anak, hindi mo ba alam?’ So nung pinanood ko tawa lang kami ng tawa, tapos kinukurot ko siya kada may kissing scene siya.”
Incidentally, Angelica Panganiban revealed during her guest appearance on Gandang Gabi Vice that she can’t bear to see her boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz kissing his leading ladies, particularly Bea in The Mistress. When asked to comment about Angelica’s statement, Bea confirmed that she knew about way before that episode was shown on TV. “I don’t think nagseselos siya. Baka nagkamali lang. Sinabi niya [hindi niya kaya panoorin] kasi tinanong ko nung nakapanood siya ng The Mistress. Sabi niya, ‘I’m sorry. Alam mo naman lahat ng pelikula mo pinapanood ko, pwera lang this time.’ Oo sinabi niya sa akin, kasi inusig ko talaga siya bakit hindi pa siya nanonood.”
On her part, Bea reiterated that it’s no big deal whenever Zanjoe does kissing scenes with other actresses since it’s part of their job to begin with. “Siguro kasi malaking factor na malaki yung tiwala ko sa kanya. And whenever may gagawin siyang ganon kadelikadong eksena, he would always tell me beforehand na parang ganito gagawin ko eh. And we talk about those things as adults. Parang wala, I don’t see Zanjoe there [in the movie]. I see the character. And this is also my job. So para namang, hindi ko naman mairereklamo yun because I do the same things, minsan worse pa,” she finally stated.
