As parent to one of the hottest teen stars in the country today, Rommel Padilla admitted he never expected that his youngest son Daniel Padilla would be one of the fastest-rising talents on the Star Magic roster. The proud father couldn’t help but feel humbled by all the positive feedback about DJ. “Naku salamat. Kung ganun na yung dating ni DJ. Siyempre yung pasasalamat ko sa lahat ng sumusuporta ko sa kanya. Thank you very much,” he said.
Rommel was present during the Princess and I Royal Championship event where he cheered on his son on Team Gino which won the game. “Ang first love talaga ni DJ is basketball. And then sumunod na yung band, yung music, ganun. Later on, acting na. Basta sports, ang unang una kung pinayo sa kanya is sportsmanship, kailangan laro-laro lang, walang personalan,” he said.
When it comes to acting, Rommel said he wants his son to take the craft seriously. “Unang-una, lagi kong pinapaalala yung disiplina bilang artista and then dun naman sa pag-arte nila, kanya-kanyang estilo talaga yan eh,” he told Push.com.ph
Rommel admitted he is also aware of DJ’s rumored offscreen romance with Princess and I leading lady Kathryn Bernardo. The 49-year-old actor said he has no problem if ever the love team of “KathNiel” will happen for real. “Basta sabi ko sa kanya, huwag lang siya makakasakit, basta laging tunay lang parati. Pabor naman ako, oo naman. Ako naman sa mga anak ko, kung saan sila maligaya, dun din ako,” he admitted.
The talented actor said it was only natural for DJ and Kath to become close even off the set. “Siguro naman, kasi every time since na makilala ko si Kathryn at nung nagsimula silang magkasama sa trabaho, I guess dun naman papunta yun, yung magiging close talaga sila,” he added.
When asked to comment on the rumor that DJ is reportedly getting an inflated ego already, Rommel said he is not bothered by the issue. “Hindi naman siguro. Siyempre pag nanggaling ka dun sa hindi ka sikat, of course madali kang malalapitan or hindi ka busy. Ngayon kasi nagiging sobrang busy na si DJ, kami nga hindi na kami halos nagkikita pero hindi naman siguro ganun,” he said.
Because of DJ’s jam-packed work schedule, Rommel admitted that spending time with his son is more challenging now. “Actually nitong Christmas season nagkaroon naman kami ng pagkakataon na magsama-sama pero yung family bonding namin medyo nabawasan na ngayon. Dati every weekend nagkikita-kita kami. So ngayon may effort na para magkita talaga,” he shared.
