With two other comedy films set to compete with in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival such as Vice Ganda’s Girl, Boy, Bakla Tomboy and Ryzza Mae Dizon and Bimby Yap’s My Little Bossings plus the other participants in the festival, internationally-acclaimed actress Eugene Domingo is very well aware that her film, Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel is going to be up against a tight competition.
Nevertheless, Eugene related that she is embracing the fact that the last installment of the popular franchise would finish with flying colors and eventually end up among the crucial top three films in this year’s film festival.
“Yes! Yes I am embracing that. I would like us to be in top one to three because realistically ‘yun ‘yung kumikita. So I think isa sa mga goals naman talaga ng pagsali mo sa MMFF is because you want to take the opportunity na maraming maraming Pilipino ang nanonood ng sine,” the award-winning actress related during a recent set visit.
“And at this point parang deserve naman natin sumaya,” she added, alluding to the tragedies faced by the nation the past few months.
Seeing that the first two installments of Kimmy and Dora’s adventures have been positively received in general, does she have fears that her work might be outshined by the two other comedy flicks? “‘Di ako kinakabahan honestly kasi iba ‘yung ino-offer ng Little Bossings kasi pambata talaga siya. Iba rin kasi ‘yung kay Vice Ganda kasi si Vice Ganda siya talaga ‘yung may hawak ng blockbuster throne di ba? So alam mong marami talagang manonood tsaka he’s really, really, really funny and it’s directed by Wenn Deramas… Iba-iba talaga kami eh,” Eugene explained.
Eugene emphasized that she, as well as the entire team behind the Kimmy Dora franchise, are all banking on the followers of the series. Eugene bluntly added that she’s also hoping for the Chris Martinez-helmed flick to bag an award at the film fest mostly because “may cash prize.”
Kimmy Dora gave Eugene her two awards in 2010: the Star Awards for Movies Movie Actress of the Year and the Golden Screen Awards Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. The same film also earned her a nomination under the Best Actress category of the Gawad Urian in the same year.
