It seems that the Barrettos are far from having a happy Christmas as Gretchen Barretto and her brother JJ recently testified for the camp of her younger sister Claudine's estranged husband Raymart Santiago.
Gretchen and JJ gave their testimonies in a closed-door hearing lately held at the Marikina Regional Trial Court for the custody battle of Claudine and Raymart's children Sabina and Santino.
"As expected it became very emotional but okay naman mas magaan ang dibdib ngayon na nailabas na lahat ng dapat ilabas," Gretchen said about their testimony which was aired on the Sunday episode of Buzz ng Bayan.
According to Gretchen, she and JJ are more than willing to cooperate for the estranged couple's case so much so that "Kahit paulit ulit, kahit araw-araw, oras-oras nila kaming tawagan to stand as witness para lang mabigyan ng hustisya si Raymart at mabigyan ng katahimikan ang mga buhay namin."
Although many might misconstrue her testimony as an act of condemning her sister, Gretchen insists that whatever she did, she did out of love for Claudine.
"Mahal ko ang kapatid ko, bunso namin 'yan. Ang gusto ko lang maibalik ang buhay niya sa tama at mabawasan ang mga kaaaway niya, mabawasan ang galit niya sa buhay. Ang kailangan ni Claudine, 'yung mapagamot siya, mapa-rehab siya. Andoon parin kaming magkakapatid to support her," claimed the actress
Speaking of having her sister treated, the Kapamilya star said that they're really hoping that their testimony could pave the way for Claudine to go back to rehab at the soonest possible time in order for her to receive proper treatment.
"I don't wanna get into details but the last time that she was in Chana Rehab. If you google it, it's a first class rehab. I don't know kung sino ang dapat naming kausapin [dahil] doon siya dapat pero 'yun ang hinihingi namin sa korte," she said.
If there's one thing that gets to Gretchen the most because of this ongoing legal battle between her sister and Raymart it's the fact that the she saw how happy they were before.
"He was a very good husband for her, I know that for sure malapit kami ni Claudine, 'yun ang parati niyang kinukwento sakin nung lumabas siya ng rehab noong February 2011. Parati niyang sinasabi ng paulit-ulit na 'Buti nalang hindi ako iniwan ni Raymart, he was very patient. Mahal niya ako, mahal ko siya,'" she quoted Claudine as saying.
The Barretto siblings' testimony was spawned by Raymart's response to the Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children (VAWC) case filed by Claudine against him in August, where he accused his wife of domestic violence, having a history of drug abuse, and being mentally ill.
The actor's statements were corroborated by accounts of La Greta as well as her two other siblings JJ and Marjorie in one affidavit.
But there seems to be no turning back in the continuously worsening Barretto family feud as Gretchen even revealed that their very own father, Miguel Barretto threatened to kill them for siding to Raymart.
"Sinabihan ng daddy ko ang kapatid kong lalaki, ang pinakamatanda, at ang pamangkin ko na si John, na pag mag-testify daw si JJ, at nalaman niyang mag-te-testify si JJ, sabi niya babarilin niya," she related.
She continued, "At sinabi naman ng aking pamangkin na, 'Tita Gretch, Tita Marj will testify.' At sabi niya [Miguel Barretto], 'I will kill them.'"
