Although it’s been three weeks since his sold-out dance concert King of the Gil took place at the Araneta Coliseum, some fans of Enrique Gil seem to be taking quite a while to move on from it. Hordes of fans of his tandem with onscreen partner Julia Montes collectively known as JulQuens have aired their dismay over what happened in the show.
Julia, unlike the other guests at the concert, unfortunately wasn’t able to even say “hi” or thank her fans after her performance, an incident which reportedly earned the ire of the JulQuen fans that trooped to the Big Dome.
Knowing that many fans were disappointed, Enrique, in an interview during their grand fans day held by Cinema One and StarStudio Magazine in Trinoma on Monday, took the opportunity to finally clarify what really happened that night. “Yes, yes originally kasi ‘yung feel nung dance concert ang gusto sana namin is less talk and more of energy kasi ‘pag dance concert dapat mataas ang energy eh. Hindi siya parang comedy concert na nag-uusap, na pwedeng mag-relax. Siyempre ‘yung tao nakaupo [kaya] they need to feel ‘yung hype kahit nakaupo,” he started.
“Lahat ng guests ko may time talaga na mag-spiel. Siyempre guest ko eh, kailangan naman [makapagsalita sila]. Ang problema kasi may ibang prods na dire-diretso ako [ang magpe-perform] na kailangan kong magpalit kasi may ibang prod like si Kathryn [Bernardo], dire-diretso hindi ako nagpalit no’n. Eh after Julia, LED ako eh. Puro ilaw kaya I had to change to my next costume kasi ako nanaman ang susunod. Eh puro ilaw ‘yun eh tsaka may battery kaya dapat tanggalin nung oras na ‘yun kaya tinanggal na ‘yung spiel ni Julia kasi mabilisan lang eh tapos ako kaagad ‘yung susunod,” said the 21-year-old actor-dancer.
Enrique underscored that there were actually other guests aside from Julia who also weren’t able to say their spiels like Kim Chiu. “‘Yun ang problema. Eh wala talaga tayong magagawa kasi sila ang nagpapalit ng sequence,” he stated.
Enrique apologized to his fans, particularly those who expected the concert to be as perfect as possible. “Hindi naman natin mapi-please lahat. Ako, personally, gusto ko siyempre mag-hi ‘yung mga guests ko sa mga fans, pero hindi talaga nagawa eh so sorry,” he offered.
During a separate interview at the same event, Julia, who was also familiar with the criticisms of fans after the concert, stressed that no one is to blame for what happened. “Kung tutuusin wala naman talaga siya sa program na magsasalita and ang hassle rin naman kung magsasalita pa ako tapos may next prod siya na program,” Julia clarified.
She continued, “Walang dapat i-blame kasi alam ko na talaga ‘yon na from the start eh ganon talaga na no talkies.”
