Singer-composer Wynn Andrada, one of the finalists of this year’s Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs competition, revealed that he intends to pull out all stops in order to stay in the business. “Nakikita ko na gagawin ko po ang lahat ngayon para magtagal sa showbiz. Kung talagang ito ‘yung para sa akin po, tatanggapin ko,” Andrada said during the press conference for his self-titled debut album held recently at Sir Boy’s Food Republique.
The budding acoustic singer-songwriter has six tracks on his new album, including his Himig Handog entry “Tamang Panahon.”
The timid heartthrob has a lot of musical inspirations that he looks up to in the local music scene, among them Gary Valenciano, Noel Cabangon, Aiza Seguerra, and Ogie Alcasid. “Kasi bata pa po ako sinasama na ako ng mama ko sa concert niya [Gary V.] sa Araneta Coliseum and parang ang ganda rin ng impact po sa akin ng pagkanta niya ng mga gospel songs, kaya isa po siya sa iniidolo ko.”
While many of musicians who are starting off like him tend to look up to international musicians more than the local talents, Andrada stressed that it’s important to love the local crop of artists. “I like [them] din po pero para sa akin rin po mas maganda na mahalin ‘yung sariling music natin kasi ito po ‘yung tumatatak sa mga Pilipino talaga kaya dapat palaguin natin kasi medyo nababawasan na ang nakikinig sa OPM,” he said.
Andrada confessed that he would also like to try acting should an opportunity be given to him. When asked for a particular star whom he would want to work with, Andrada named Teleserye Princess Kim Chiu because “ano po, nung nasa PBB (Pinoy Big Brother) palang siya napapanood ko siya.”
Andrada even added that he would be happy to write a love song for Kim and even sing it with her in a duet.
Apart from Kim , he also named his co-Himig Handog finalist Marion Aunor, who also recently launched her first album, as another singer that he wants to share the stage with in the near future.
Andrada’s self-titled album is now available in record bars nationwide for only P199. The tracks can also be downloaded via iTunes, www.amazon.com, www.mymusicstore.com.ph, and www.starmusic.ph.
