After winning the Metro Manila Film Fest Best Actor award two years in a row for Star Cinema's Segunda Mano and One More Try, Dingdong Dantes revealed he is not participating in it this year. “Mami-miss ko siyempre and maganda rin siguro na may pahinga rin ako. Pahinga meaning I can explore more options for the next years to come. This Christmas mas focus muna ako sa family time, yung mga hindi ko pa nagawa nung time na yun,” he admitted.
After doing She's The One with Bea Alonzo, Dingdong admitted he enjoyed learning how to play golf and doing dramatic scenes for the film. “Si Bea hindi madamot magpakita kung sino talaga siya so naging very generous siya to extend her friendship especially sa baguhan na katulad ko dito sa kanyang territory kaya siguro it became easy for me to open up. Hindi ako nagkaroon ng wall. Naging at ease agad ako sa kanya at sa buong set and malaking bagay yun para sa akin kasi yung pagkatao ko kailangan mag-warm-up o maging relaxed at kampante sa isang lugar. That's one of the major reasons why thankful ako sa kanya dahil hindi niya ipinagdamot sa akin yung aspetong yun,” he shared.
Dingdong revealed Bea even exceeded his expectations on and off-cam. “Umpisa pa lang, siyempre I always had my first impression of Bea kasi I never got the chance to work with her noong araw. Pero nung nakasama ko siya and naka-work ko na siya, nakita ko talaga na hindi naman malayo kung ano yung pino-project niya sa TV. Parang nakita ko sa kanya na what you see is what you get. You can see that she is genuinely a nice person. Kumbaga kung ano yung ginagawa niya behind cam and on-cam ay talagang ma-ta-translate kung gaano siya kabuting tao and kung gaano siya ka-generous bilang artista. Very very light siya katrabaho kaya I'm very happy na nakatrabaho ko siya,” he said.
Although they are both in relationships with other people, Dong said it was actually an advantage for them while they were making She's The One. “Para sa amin ni Bea malaking bagay na we are in a current relationships kasi dun namin hinuhugot kung ano yung puwede namin ibigay. It’s very good to be in love especially if you are in a love story because what your feeling inside can sincerely be translated on screen and that’s the job of every actor. That’s why we are thankful to our respective partners for staying beside us all the time to become better actors,” he said.
Dingdong said his most recent movie was a good change from his previous films. “Sa story pa lang it’s very different kasi magaan siya. I’m privileged na binigyan ako ng ganitong klaseng genre. Para sa akin breather din siya after coming from two serious films. Mas magiging special sa akin ito kasi matagal na akong hindi gumagawa ng ganitong klaseng role kaya thankful din ako sa mga kasama ko kasi they made it easier din for me and Bea,” he said.
As one of the few actors (which include girlfriend Marian Rivera who starred in Kung Fu Divas) who is able to crossover and work for different networks for major projects, he said he is in a very lucky position in his career. “Kapag nasa set ako pag work mode, iniisip ko talaga na wala naman masyadong pagkakaiba sa nakikita ko because I see the same passion, I see the same energy from lahat ng nakatrabaho ko whether sa GMA man or ABS-CBN kaya I always am thankful and grateful that I've always been given this are opportunity na maka-cross over. And I hope that someday everyone can do the same. Siyempre we can explore each other's talents kung saan man and so that we can maximize everyone's talent,” he said.
