Back in the country for a few days from London, Gretchen Barretto admitted she is looking forward to starting work on her upcoming movie with Richard Gomez. The two last worked together on the big screen in the 1992 movie Lumayo Ka Man Sa Akin.
“Mag-shu-shooting kami ng December, ako I start second week of December, ewan ko si Goma kung kelan siya magsisimula. Masayang masaya ako. It's so nice na after eight weeks na wala ako dito sa Pilipinas, matagal akong nawala pero pagbalik ko eto ang blessing na binigay sa akin ng ABS-CBN kaya nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng suporta,” she shared during their story conference held last November 25 held inside the ABS-CBN compound.
Gretchen said a reunion project with Richard (whom she affectionately refers to as “Goma”) has been long overdue. “Dapat meron kaming teleseryeng gagawin talaga ni Goma but maraming nangyari and I had to leave for London and meron siyang ibang teleserye na gagawin ngayon o pelikula na langa ng nangyari,” she revealed.
Now that they are both older and wiser, Gretchen said she is not worried about intrigues that might come up between her and Richard. “Kami ni Goma talagang friends lang. Hindi naman kami eh so hindi kami iintrigahin. Wala ng intriga, may mga pamilya na kami,” she added.
The talented actress said she will be flying back to London soon to be with her daughter Dominique (who is a college student there) and doing her part to help typhoon victims through TFC. The 43-year-old actress said she was abroad when typhoon Yolanda struck the country. “Wala ako dito pero may TFC ako doon. Updated ako, pinapanuod namin lahat ng nangyayari. Of course it's very sad and nandito naman lahat tayo para sumuporta. I'm good kababalik ko lang nung isang gabi. I'm here dahil madaming mga meetings nga sa ABS-CBN. May commercial at birthday din ni Tony Boy (Cojuangco) so I'm here for a few days and then babalik ako ng London dahil December 1 merong show doon. Piolo Pascual will be there, Enchong Dee, Shaina Magdayao, Sir Chief (Richard Yap) is going to be there so I want to tell people na magbebenta ako ng mga Tulong Tabang T-shirts doon kasama ni Dominique. Ako ang tindera ng T-shirt, abangan niyo po. Siyempre the proceeds will go to the victims of Yolanda. Yun ang aming participation dun para makita ko rin ang mga Filipino doon sa London,” she said.
After their movie, Gretchen said she is looking forward to going back to teleseryes. “After this movie saka ako gagawa ng teleserye kasi mahirap itong pelikulang ito. We all have to concentrate. Hindi ako superwoman. Hindi ko kaya magsabay ng pelikula at ng teleserye but after that I will do a teleserye,” she said.
Gretchen said she and her family will be spending the holidays in the country. “Dito kami sa Pilipinas. Di ba magtratrabaho ako? So nandito ako para magtrabaho with the people I love. Simple pero ang importante kasama mo yung mga mahal mo sa buhay,” she said.
After the story conference, Gretchen persuaded the media covering the event to refrain from bringing up intrigues. This year, the squabble amongst members of the Barretto clan was hot topic for many months. “Alam ko na gusto niyo itanong lahat ng intrigang nangyari pero nagpapasalamat ako at hindi niyo tatanungin (laughs) dahil let's start already by being positive. Eto na maganda na itong nangyayari. Ituloy-tuloy na natin di ba? Wala ng intriga. Hindi na uso yan maraming nangyayari ngayon, maraming nangangailangan ng kalinga at atensyon so puwede muna natin isangtabi yung mga intriga na hindi naman importante. Move on. Andito na ang mga blessings na dumarating di ba? We have work, we have good friends, we have people around us who love us. Yun na lang ang pagtuunan natin ng pansin kesa naman yung negative. Mahirap akong galitin at this point. Ang daming biyaya. Sa dami ng nangyayari hindi na importante ang intriga,” she explained.
When asked what her wish for Christmas was this year, the mestiza actress said she wants the typhoon victims to be in a better situation. “Sana lahat ng tao magkaroon ng pagkain doon sa Leyte. Lahat ng mga kailangan nila ay matugunan and peace,” she said.
