Matteo Guidicelli on typhoon Yolanda: 'We're going to get through this'

<div><img src='' alt='112113-Matteo_Main.jpg' width='305' height='290' align='left' border='0'>Coming from the Visayas region himself where super typhoon Yolanda wreaked havoc, Matteo Guidicelli couldn’t help but be heartbroken over the catastrophe. “It’s devastating, I’m from Cebu and when you turn on the TV it’s really depressing. But you know, all of us should help in our own little ways. I’m helping naman in Cebu, that’s where I’m from. My mom is from Bogo, it’s a small town in Bantayan Island. There’s this little island that people don’t know about that really needs help so my cousins from Cebu formed a group and every week, twice or three times a week they go there and they help out,” he said in an interview with Push.com.ph.</div><div><br/></div><div>To extend help, the<i> Galema</i> actor relayed that he sends goods and clothes to the region through his cousin, who distributes them. “<i>’Yung</i> cousin<i> ko</i> she’s a designer in Cebu. I just send stuff there and she’s the one who distributes it to the small islands, <i>kumbaga</i> there’s a small island in Bantayan with ninety families. After the typhoon there were zero families, everybody was swept away, so <i>‘yun</i> we just keep on going back there you know helping out these people because nobody knows these guys,” he said.</div><div><br/></div><div>A lot of Matteo’s relatives were affected by the typhoon and he’s thankful to the international aid that helps speed up their recovery. “<i>Meron sa</i> Bogo, <i>marami [akong</i> relatives] <i>pero buti na lang</i>, thank God everybody is okay and now because of the international help, <i>talagang</i> they are all there eh. Bogo has become high tech <i>na</i>, everything is so much better<i> na at dahan-dahan</i> it becomes better.”</div><div><br/></div><div>Matteo said he believes that many might not have anticipated the strength of Yolanda, hence, a lot were not spared from its catastrophic effect.  “Cebu City<i> mismo</i> okay <i>lang, pero ‘yung mga probinsya sa labas, mga maliliit na </i>towns,<i> ‘yun naapektuhan talaga.</i> I guess some people really didn’t know how strong it was going to get. It’s like a mini tsunami already you know, so if people really knew about it, they could have evacuated. But it’s really hard to tell<i> eh talagang</i> it’s one of the disasters that we pray that it’s not going to happen again, so<i> ‘yun.”</i></div><div><br/></div><div>On his message for typhoon victims, Matteo has some words of encouragement. “Guys, <i>dapat </i>we put our heads up high and we’ll work together. The Philippines is one of the strongest countries in the whole entire world in spirit and in everything so we going to stand up. We’re going to get through this.”</div><div><br/></div>

Matteo Guidicelli says he's heartbroken over the recent tragedy that hit the country, but he remains optimistic that Filipinos will get through it.
