Kapamilya stars gathered for a one-night-only benefit concert for the super typhoon Yolanda victims
In a thrust to gain more funds for the Sagip Kapamilya foundation to further aid the victims of super typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas region, ABS-CBN along with a few prized Kapamilya stars mixed charity and entertainment by coming up with the Tulong Na, Tabang Na, Tayo Na: An All-Star Benefit concert
Held in Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, November 16, the sold-out concert which was mounted for only five days featured song performances from Tony-award winning singer Lea Salonga, international singing sensation Charice, local singing superstars Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera and a bunch of other Kapamilya stars like Marcelito Pomoy, Toni Gonzaga, Sam Milby, Sitti, Leizel Garcia, Mitoy Yonting, and Jovit Baldivino, among others.
Maja Salvador, John Prats, Rayver Cruz and Empress performed an interpretative dance while other stars like Judy Ann Santos, John Lloyd Cruz, Angelica Panganiban, Enchong Dee, Shaina Magdayao, Venus Raj, Pokwang, Carlo Aquino, Kaye Abad, Nikki Valdez, Alex Gonzaga, Dawn Zulueta, Richard Gomez, Iza Calzado, and Matteo Guidicelli, among others, hosted segments of the concert and shared inspiring stories of strength and charity.
Pilipinas Got Talent season 3 fourth placer El Gamma Penumbra lent their skills for a moving shadow dance performance that mirrored how the Kababayans in Visayas are battling these dark times.
With so much aide coming from all parts of the world and the country, John, in an interview before the concert, shared that he’s “honored and privileged” to take part in the charity event.
“Kasi for a cause eh so lahat ng gagawin mo kahit maliit na bagay eh part ka ng team at nakibahagi ka sa pagtulong sa mga Kapamilya nating nasalanta ng bagyong Yolanda,” he explained
Like John, Dawn and Venus were also proud to have been tapped to join the show.
“Ke maliit, ke Malaki ang kobtribusyon mo ang mahalaga may naiambag ka sa mga kababayan mo,’ said the Miss Universe 2010 fourth runner-up.
Hunks Piolo and Xian, on the other hand considered their participation on the concert as their way of “giving back” to other people.
“I think this is what it’s all about, giving back to share with everyone our heart and our concern for the people. It’s humbling and at the same time it really shows that a lot of people really wanna do their part para makatulong sa ating mga kababayan,” said the On The Job actor.
Comedienne Pokwang for her part lauded the Kapamilya network for its active work in aiding those affected by the devastating typhoon.
“Isa po itong patunay na ang Kapamilya niyong network na ABS-CBN kasama po kaming mga artista ay lagi pong nakahanda para tumulong po sa lahat ng mga nangangailangan nating kababayan,” said she.
Like his Call Center Girl co-star, Enchong also praised his home network’s effort as well as the Filipinos’ inherent desire to help which has been shining brightly off late.
“Nakakatuwa lang kasi ang ABS-CBN ambilis gumawa ng paraan para makatulong kaagad and nakakatuwa rin isipin na first time ko sa tagal ko sa industriyang ito na ngayon ko lang nakita na ‘yung Sagip Kapamilya punong-puno,” he shared about the overflowing relief goods at the Sagip Kapamilya warehouse and the Pinoy Big Brother Concert Hall.
But in the end it was Lea who noted that the overwhelming support that the concert received at a very short notice is truly one for the books and in a way “replenishes my reserves of hope.”
“It’s nakakataba ng puso seeing so many people eager to help and seeing so many artists came here tonight to be part of this at short notice, people volunteering not even waiting to be asked to be part of it. I think the artistic heart is very big and it makes these things possible. These artists are so generous and so giving of themselves,” she said.
All ticket sales of the recently-concluded Tulong Na, Tabang Na, Tayo Na: An All-Star Benefit concert would go to Sagip Kapamilya Foundation.
