Celebs express joy, shock over Ara Arida's 3rd place finish on Miss Universe

111113-Ariella_main.jpgAs with the previous pageants, Pinoys and celebrities alike has sent social networking sites buzzing over the result of this year's Miss Universe 2013 coronation night held in Moscow, Russia on Sunday (Manila time).

Continuing the Top 5 streak of Pinay beauties for the fourth year in a row was Philippine representative Ariella "Ara" Arida who finished as a third runner-up on the prestigious pageant this year.

Soon as the results were announced, social media platforms Twitter and Instagram erupted with congratulatory messages for Ara.

Among those who happily extended their congratulations to Ara were former beauty queens Charlene Gonzales, Bianca Manalo, and Miss Universe 2012 1st runner up Janine Mari Tugonon, who was also with Ara in Russia, as well as, It's Showtime host Vice Ganda and TV Patrol entertainment host Gretchen Fullido.

While hosts Marc Nelson and Paolo Bediones thanked her on Twitter for "making the country proud."

Mariel Rodriguez on the other hand cited the positivity and hope brought about by her win after Super typhoon Yolanda's devastation in the country.

She wrote, "There is a rainbow after the rain, there is a crown after the storm! Congratulations Ara Arida, we're proud of you! #Filipino"

While, many were delighted over her feat, a good number of celebrities weren't able to mask their dismay that Ara didn't win the top plum when, as some noted, she was the only one who properly answered the question asked by the judge.

During the much-awaited final round, Ara was the only one who answered in English and sans the use of an interpreter. Her question from judge Tara Lipinski's was: "What can be done about the lack of jobs for young people starting their careers around the world?"

Her response was: "For the people who have lack of jobs, I do believe that we people should invest in education and that is my primary advocacy, because we all know that if everyone of us is educated and well aware of what we are doing, we could land into jobs and we could land a good career in the future. Education is the primary source and ticket to a better future."

Among those who weren't able to easily accept the result was host Bianca Gonzalez who posted a straight-forward "NO WAY" on her Twitter account soon as the results were announced followed by "ARA IKAW PARIN ANG MISS UNIVERSE NAMIN!!! YOU ARE STILL THE SUNSHINE IN THIS GLOOMY TIME PARA SA BANSA!!!"

Fashion designer Rajo Laurel posted on his Twitter account that he was "devastated" that Miss Venezuela Gabriela Isler was named as this year's Miss Universe. Like Bianca, host MJ Felipe was also disappointed of the result even voicing his emotions out loud on Twitter saying that, "KALOKOHAN."

This year marks the fourth year that Miss Universe's diamond nexus crown missed the Philippines. Last year was the closest encounter with the elusive crown when Janine Tugonon finished as the first runner-up to Miss USA Olivia Culpo. Recall that Shamcey Supsup placed 3rd in 2011 while Venus Raj finished on the 4th place in 2010.
