'Voice PH' winner Mitoy Yonting shrugs off 'Noise of PH' tag

PUSH mitoy-main.jpgSinger Mitoy Yonting’s win as the first ever The Voice of the Philippines winner last Sunday, September 29, apart from his undeniable talent has been mainly fueled by the public’s votes. But just as a lot of people are amazed by his singing prowess, many are equally miffed by his powerful singing technique even dubbing him as the “Noise of the Philippines.”

During his first official interview with The Buzz, on Sunday, a week after bagging the top plum from the show, Mitoy said that he does not take offense to the tag nor does he feel bad about those questioning his win.

According to Mitoy, making “noise” wasn’t really his goal as a singer.

Notwithstanding his detractors’ criticisms, Mitoy is positive that he has the “voice” which is why he won.

But early on the competition, did he think that he has a huge chance of being the champion?
“Sa simula hindi, nung unti-unti nalang kami. Kasi sa simula hindi mo pwedeng angkinin agad ‘yung titulo eh dahil alam mo lahat ng nakapasok ;ahat ‘yan may ibubuga,” he confessed.

During the entire run of the show, one of the most nerve-wracking face offs that the public has seen was his battle against his co-Team Lea [Salonga] participant, Radha. The veteran singer openly admitted that Radha was a tough competition.

Kaya sabi ko may hulog ako dito kapag nagkamali ako,” he shared.

But he refuse to be overcome by that creeping insecurity. It maybe recalled that during that battle, their Tony award-winning coach chose Radha over him and according to Mitoy that didn’t upset him at all.

“Maaaring magkaganon. Maging maganda man ang resulta o panget pinaghahandaan ko lagi ‘yun,” explained the Draybers lead vocalist.

But eventually it was Mitoy who moved forward all thanks to the public’s votes. However, even before Radha was booted from the competition, Lea has been very vocal about how proud she is about Mitoy.

According to him, the most important lesson that Lea has imparted to him was to always “be yourself.”

He expounded this and said, “Kung paano ka mag-perform sa isang tao o sa isang daang tao. Walang kalahati.”

Speaking of whole performances, Mitoy, towards the end of the interview thanked all those who voted and rooted for him on the show.
