For Robi Domingo, 2013 has been a very good year. From hosting the recently concluded The Voice of the Philippines, the former PBB Teens housemate is now the host of season two of I Dare You. Off-cam, Robi is also very happy with his relationship with girlfriend Gretchen Ho. The 24-year-old host says she has influenced him for the better.
“Ang influence niya sa akin is simplicity. Eto walang bola ah, yung kagandahan niya iba eh. Tulad nga ng sinasabi ko sa kanya every single time na magkita kami, she’s my beauty queen who happens to wear kahit ano lang, kahit a shirt and jeans. Kahit yun lang suot niya, magiging beauty queen pa rin siya sa akin kasi ang simple ng ganda niya, ang ganda rin ng attitude niya about things, sobrang okay. Yun lang masasabi ko,” he explained.
Robi said he has been able to influence Gretchen to be more free-spirited. “I think I inspired her to be optimistic all the time. She’s the serious type eh na always with her game face on all the time, even with the boys. Talagang may great wall siya, great wall na nga siya, may Great Wall of China pa siya sa sarili niya. With this show’s help, it helped me to become more optimistic about life, to be more happy about it and habang ginagawa ko ito, yun yung na-impart ko sa kanya na life is not just about winning and losing, it’s just there and you just have to experience it. It’s there to be experienced, waiting to be experienced and at the end of the day it all boils down to happiness,” he said.
In one episode of I Dare You, Robi admitted his immersion in one community in Zambales was an unforgettable experience and it was also the first time for him to wear a “bahag” on-cam. His challenge was to teach literacy to the community and ultimately to join a storytelling contest. “Nagulat ako, kaso ang hirap naman humindi kasi they might get insulted if you turn down their request to wear it. Matagal din kami dun mga two weeks yung stay namin tapos a week and a half yung mga preparation sa mga contests. Yung story nung sa amin, umikot kami sa iba’t ibang mga isla to teach kids tapos nag-recruit kami ng mga Aetas, sumali kami sa mga storytelling competition, yung Alitaptap,” he recalled.
When asked to comment about his co-host Melai Cantiveros’s recent pregnancy news, Robi said he is happy for Melai and her partner Jason Francisco, who was also a guest in one of the episodes of this season’s I Dare You. “All I can say is we miss you, I’m really, really happy for you kasi alam ko yung love story nilang dalawa ni Jason is really something mula dati,” he said.
Robi said Melai was not yet pregnant when they were taping episodes of the show earlier this year and she was even surprised to discover she would be doing a ballroom dancing challenge with Jason. “Si Jason sinabihan namin pero si Melai hindi niya alam. Wala siyang alam at all. Surprised siya agad kasi ang technique ng I Dare You is kunyari ikaw ang gusto nilang gawing celebrity kakampi. Pero sa show, si Melai at Deniesse (Aguilar) yung magkakasama, sila yung nag-a-annotate sa buhay ko dun sa episode ko pero umikot rin sila. Mahirap siya. We finished everything siguro early first quarter of this year and then we were waiting, we were excited na i-e-ere siya last April, tapos biglang sinabi The Voice ang mauuna,” he admitted.
