'She's The One' writers say Enrique Gil is showbiz's next big thing

Maria and Charlene Sawit-Esguerra are both convinced that Enrique Gil is ready to take on more mature and demanding roles.</div><div><br/></div><div>In an exclusive interview with <a href='http://Push.com.ph'>Push.com.ph </a>during the cast party held after the movie’s premiere night on Monday, both the writers of the newest <i>Star Cinema </i>offering were all praises for Enrique’s surprising acting chops. “When we wrote David’s part, <i>wala sa isip naming na ito talaga ‘yung magiging</i> breakout performance<i> niya, hindi talaga</i>,” started Anton.</div><div><br/></div><div><i>“Nung nagsimula na siyang mag-</i>shooting for the movie<i> pwede.</i> [We thought] if<i> naglagay tayo ibang artista doon</i> I don’t think the role of David would be that big <i>sa kwento.</i> I think <i>na</i>-revise<i> rin ‘yung kwento namin dahil magaling si</i> Enrique <i>dito sa pelikula</i> so <i>parang pinalaki rin namin [ang </i>role <i>niya]</i>,” he continued.</div><div><br/></div><div>Charlene even piped in that, after everything that Enrique showcased, “That’s when we realized <i>na </i>he’s going to be big.”</div><div><br/></div><div>As the youngest lead star of the film, eyes were inevitably trained on Enrique the moment that it was announced that he would be working alongside blockbuster actress Bea Alonzo and multi-awarded Dingdong Dantes. Many were eager to know whether or not he would be able to deliver since <i>She’s The One</i> would be his first serious film.</div><div><br/></div><div>While they admitted that Enrique’s young and impulsive role of David was a “sparkling character” right from the beginning, much credit, they say, is due to the star who breathed life to the role beyond expectations. “Si Enrique, he really brought so much enthusiasm into the role. Like <i>dadating siya na sobrang puyat </i>and <i>‘di siya nakatulog… Parang</i> everybody was impressed by the energy that he brought to the role.<i> Kami </i>as writers<i> siyempre</i> you’re in a room you create the story and then you hope that it can wonderful when the actors play it. So <i>nung napapanood namin ‘yung</i> scenes really coming to life, I mean through the three of them, <i>parang sobrang saya namin,</i>” Charlene explained.</div><div><br/></div><div>Without revealing spoilers about the film, Anton cited the last scene shared by Bea and Enrique as the foremost evidence that the latter had already “graduated” from doing teenybopper roles. According to him, having been able to successfully pull off that particular “serious and dramatic” scene simply meant that “he’s ready to be developed for more serious roles.”</div><div><br/></div><div>“So<i> hindi ako magugulat kung ang </i>next project<i> niya</i> will be more serious or mas demanding as an actor<i> ‘yung mabibigay sa kanyang</i> role and I wouldn’t be surprised also<i> kung maging</i> leading role<i> na talaga siya sa susunod na</i> project<i> niya,</i>” he even declared.</div><div><br/></div><div>Curiously though, aside from the aforementioned scene, the kissing scenes shared by Bea and Enrique, according to Anton, could also serve as another proof that the <i>“King of the Gil”</i> performer is ready to level up his acting. “The very first kissing scene it took a few takes<i> pero ‘yung pangalawang</i> kissing scene, one take lang <i>‘yun. Ang saya lang makita na parang</i> from the start of the movie to that part <i>eh </i>nag-develop <i>talaga siya</i>,” Anton related about Quen.</div><div><br/></div><div>Affirming what <i>She’s The One</i> director Mae Cruz revealed in an earlier exclusive <a href='http://Push.com.ph'>Push.com.ph</a> report, Anton and Charlene also shared that Enrique was actually their first—not to mention almost non-negotiable choice—as the actor to portray the role of David. “Actually before <i>pa pumasok si </i>Enrique <i>hindi namin alam na siya talaga ‘yung makukuha namin, </i>we were praying <i>na siya talaga kasi lahat kami nagkaisa nung sinusulat namin ‘yung </i>character<i> ni </i>David <i>sinasabi namin,</i> ‘<i>Si</i> Enrique <i>ito</i> <i>eh’ parang wala kaming ma-</i>imagine <i>na iba,</i>” Charlene claimed.</div><div><br/></div><div>However, despite not having any other “solid” actor in mind, due to his hectic schedule, Charlene recalled that they were so close into replacing Enrique and having someone else go onboard. “May point actually <i>na parang naku hindi talaga ata siya pwede</i> so <i>lugmok rin kami kasi</i> it meant that we’d have to go back to the drawing board and tweak the character so it would work for somebody else and by some miracle<i> nga </i>the deal came through,” Charlene shared.</div><div><br/></div><div>Did they have a tough time “conjuring” chemistry between Enrique and Bea and between Dingdong and Bea? “I think there is<i> pero</i> for them we did not have to try hard<i> parang </i>look test<i> palang nila parang may </i>something. So<i> parang</i> we can just worry about the story without having to contrive <i>na magkaroon ng </i>whatever chemistry <i>kasi nandoon na siya</i> even without us trying,” Charlene supplied.</div><div><br/></div>
