101613-Mae_Main.jpgShe’s The One director Mae Cruz said she is grateful that she has worked with actors like Bea Alonzo, Dingdong Dantes, and Enrique Gil who gave their best and put their hearts into her first full-length film. In an exclusive interview with Push.com.ph during the cast party held after the movie’s premiere night on Monday, the director gave all three stars a rating of 11 out of 10 to show how exceedingly satisfied she is of their performance on She’s The One. “I don’t know I’m just so happy kasi right now so I’m in high spirits, I think I’ll give them 11,” blurted the director with a big smile
.
While she expects nothing less from the three stars, she remained in awe over the fact that they delivered, “surpassed” her expectations and actually “collaborated” with her. “Kasi parang siyempre may kaba ako noon kay Dong kasi siyempre he’s a Best Actor na, you know he’s proven himself and parang to work with someone like with him parang nangangapa kami sa isa’t-isa [nung una] pero you know he gave me warmth, he gave me his trust and he gave me his cooperation and nag 110% performance siya,” she said.

Direk Mae had nothing but praise for Bea, whom she worked with on several soaps like Maging Sino Ka Man and Magkaribal in the past. “Si Bea naman I’ve known her from Maging Sino Ka Man and Magkaribal and sinasabi ko nga sa kanya she has really grown as an actress and as a person kaya talagang bilib na bilib rin ako how she has matured and ibang-ibang level na siya as an artista,” she said.

But of the three stars, the director was most pleasantly surprised with Muling Buksan Ang Puso star Enrique, whom she underscored surpassed the demands of his first mature onscreen role because “for someone so young I didn’t expect na ganon siya ka-intense at ganon siya ka-professional at ganon niya ka-mahal ‘yung trabaho niya. Grabe napabilib ako.

While many initially thought that Enrique was “miscast” in the light romantic film, seeing that he was put alongside relatively older talents, direk Mae revealed that she and the film’s writers actually couldn’t think of any other star who could possibly pull off the role. “Kumbaga parang kapag nag-iisip ka ng character ‘di ba meron kang someone in mind like a peg and then parang iniisip namin na who is someone younger? Who is energetic and intense na gwapo na hindi ka kikilabutan na ‘eeh bata parang papatulan mo?Kasi ‘yung iba even if they’re very good actors and even if they’re also young rin naman parang merong kilabot factor kasi mukha silang baby,” she explained.

Despite his young age, Enrique’s “all-encompassing” market, according to Direk Mae, was one of the reasons that placed him on top of the ranks as someone “[na] maiintindihan mo bakit papatulan ni Cat [Bea’s role in the film].

Tapos ‘yung next kailangan may laban, kailangan kahit bata ito mai-insecure ang isang Dingdong Dantes si Wacky so that’s why kung titingin ka sa ibang actors for the characters siyempre nag-iisip kana kung sino ang lalabas dito. There was no one else but Quen as in he was the only one that we had in mind and talagang he was perfect for the role,” she added about Enrique’s role David in She’s The One.

However, she didn’t deny that Enrique needed a little guidance in his acting every once in a while. “Well ‘yung isa is the maturity kasi ‘di ba? Parang ibang level na kasi ito eh nakita mo naman he had more kissing scenes here. It’s more mature kumbaga hindi na ito ‘yung pa-cute, pa-cute na pakilig parang he’s in love with a woman so parang he should act like a man so there kailangan ko siyang i-guide na ‘hindi ito ‘yung typical na pa-kilig mo na nagawa mo na before. This is different,’” she said of his performance.

Direk Mae recalled that Enrique particularly needed guidance on the kissing scenes with Bea which they had to shoot several times “Because ‘yung kiss na binibigay niya nung una was sweet and tender. Sabi ko, ‘Remember you were this intense boy na parang you want to be a man’ so parang most of the time it’s like reminding him to level up in terms of maturity and you know he’s a boy man.”

After She’s The One, Direk Mae dished out that she will be the one helming the upcoming film of Chiu and Xian Lim.
