Rico Blanco wants to keep a balance between his musical and his acting careers.
Aniya, “For me kasi every role I take on, kung considered man na fantasy—I did a comedy indie before and I did theater before yung Judas, hindi ko alam kung historical or religious—but every role I tackle I just make it as real as I can make it without thinking if this is a drama, is this a fantasy, is this action, is this comedy? I just really step into the shoes of the character. If the situation is funny, then it will be comedy. If the situation is tragic, then it becomes drama. If the situation calls for an event, then it’s action. But for me, it’s all the same. I just step into the shoes of the character.”
I still feel that I am still supporting the kids, Vina (Morales) and Carmina (Villaroel) that is how I see it. And siguro ang nature ko as an actor, I want to support whoever I am working with. I am the bridge between the two families, ako lang ang common between the two.”
“I do realize that because for the longest time in Imortal, I have to restrain myself kasi ayaw ko magka-clue na maybe this guy is important. Gusto ko talaga magulat sila so I really have to be steady agad. Ito umpisa pa lang. mabigay na agad. So your question is do I feel pressured? I don’t know e. Ginaganahan ako sa confidence na binibigay sa akin whether in music. If you give me the mic, if you give me the role, your confidence in me builds my confidence also. So I am a person who does not want to disappoint so I do my best, I do my best.”
“Tuloy-tuloy lahat. We are very careful with my schedule na walang mag-suffer. Pati dito kailangan pag nagcommit ako, hindi sila maha-hassle sa akin kasi may show ako. We are very honest with them na this is all we can do. Weekends may show. Music din we are very careful din na I get enough sleep kasi pag singer din medyo mahirap so it’s a balancing act. I am very thankful my management is helping me and ABS has been considerate also.”
Hindi siya day to day ha, ilang season ba, yung usapang ganun… balancing act lang talaga.”
“I really enjoy the creative process, to be able to create. Now second-guessing the reaction of people through music or this, I tend to not really worry too much and just focus on being better all the time and not to second guess. Because I always believe it will only throw you off if you are in a learning curve or if you have a vision and begin to listen to too much chatter. You lose focus. Listen to a few people that you really respect. Get their opinions if needed, family and peers from the industry. So far from my little roles from before, I really get encouraging words from actors that I didn’t even imagine would know who I am. Kinikilig [ako]. I guess ‘di ba when you are a fan of someone and do a good job. Pero I know marami pa akong matutunan. At kapag sa taping marami akong natutunan. Hindi lang sa acting but the technical aspects of it.”
