Toni Gonzaga defends herself from accusations that she has a 'diva attitude'

083112-toni_main.jpgRecent reports have been coming out that Toni Gonzaga was allegedly snobbish towards some fans, something that isn’t new to the TV host-actress. Rumor has it that Toni allegedly showed a diva attitude and gave some fans who wanted to take a picture with her the cold treatment.

Toni quickly denied this allegation and pointed out that this is not the first time that she was accused of exhibiting a diva attitude. “Eh nung bago ako sa industriya ganon din. Tapos nung kalagitnaan ng isyu, may ganon din, tapos mawawala. Hindi siguro natin maiiwasan ‘yon, hindi siguro malaki ang ulo ko, panga lang ang malaki,” she joked at the press conference of Tupperware Brands’ Search for Women of Confidence last Wednesday, August 29.

She explained that many people misinterpret her because in front of the camera, she is the bubbly type. “Siyempre sa TV bubbly ako, pero in person napagkakamalan nila akong suplada, napagkakamalan na moody, pero hindi nila naiintindihan sa personal [na] tahimik talaga ako,” she explained. “Mahirap man paniwalaan pero tahimik talaga ako. Nire-reserve ko lang ‘yon para paglabas ko ng TV, madaldal ako, pero in person tahimik talaga.

Since her true personality is a far cry from what people see on television, many people wrongly judge her as hostile and unpleasant. However, she added that she has been working on this problem. “Sabi ko kahit papaano siguro mag-extend ako ng extra effort para di ako mabigyan ng impression and that’s what I did for a long time now. Talagang nag-e-effort ako. Pag nakikita ko na [ang ibang tao], ako na ‘yung nag-uunang approach, bumabati, nagsisimula [ng conversation] para mawala ‘yung gano’ng impression and nawala naman and ngayon ko lang narinig ‘yan kaya mage-effort ulit.”

Though the issue is disheartening to any person, Toni justified that most, if not all, celebrities also suffer the same false accusation. “Siguro lahat ng artista, lahat ng mga nasa industriyang ito may on-and-off button na hindi laging on,” she said. “Minsan may off din na gusto natin mag-relax and just have time for ourselves. ‘Yun lang ang panahon na akin. That’s why when I’m off stage, napi-feel ko na, ‘ah, ito ang panahon ko para makapag-isip, makapagpahinga, mag-isip ng mga bagay-bagay, pag-isipan ang gagawin ko when i go back on stage. Kaya when I’m onstage, ‘yun na ‘yung on-button, kaya minsan when I’m off-stage may off-button.”

That is why she is thankful to have parents that keep her grounded and who constantly remind her every time she loses herself in being in showbiz.
May mga magulang ako na nagre-remind sa akin na [ang] trabaho ko ihiwalay ko sa personal kong buhay. Kaya when I’m home, hindi ako artista, hindi ako celebrity, hindi ako host or whatever. I’m a daughter, so pwede nila akong utusan. I live by their rules. If I’m still under the roof of my parents, I live by their rules, I still obey them.”
