Valerie Concepcion admitted she is enjoying the single life again after deciding to separate from her boyfriend of over three years, PBA player Dondon Hontiveros late last year. “Basta I just felt that I wanted some space. Kasi ‘di ba we’ve been together for three years so parang I’ve known him since teenager pa ako (laughs). 19 ako nung nakilala ko siya eh. So ayun. Yun lang, medyo gusto ko lang ng space. Siguro I just needed a break, that’s all. That’s why I wasn’t really devastated or whatever pero now we’re trying to see if things are going to be okay again between us but at that time I think I really needed that space. Kaya rin hindi ako sobrang down. Siyempre andun yung sadness of course pero ako kasi yung nag-request eh. I wanted yun nga. He felt like it was sudden, bakit biglaan, ganun ganun,” she revealed.
The host-actress admitted that Dondon has been trying his best to win her back since then. “Hindi naging persistent siya, hindi understanding (laughs). Actually in the two months na naghiwalay kami he was really parang like pinupuntahan niya ako tapos sinusundan niya ako kung nasaan ako. Kaya ngayon nag-agree ako into dating him again because he’s really very persistent talaga. Siguro a week niya akong hinayaan and then after that sobra na niya akong kinulit and parang sinasabi ko sa kanya, ‘Alam mo huwag na nga muna tayo mag-usap, sa Feb na tayo mag-usap,’ parang ganun (laughs). Pero ang tanong niya if I really did need the space. Sabi ko kasi hindi ko alam. Parang hindi ko naman nakuha yung space na hinihingi ko, parang ganun din. We’re okay now so I guess it was just a phase,” she explained to Push.com.ph.
Valerie admitted that her daughter Fiona has already grown very close to her former boyfriend. “Naku, maka-Don yun (laughs). Naging close na rin sila nitong past year. Kasi pag nagpapadala ng flowers si Don sa bahay, babasahin niya muna yung letter tapos sasabihin niya sa akin, ‘Mama, sabi ni Tito Don ganyan,’ tapos babasahin niya (laughs). Pag hindi kami magkausap ni Don, sinasabi niya, ‘I need to talk to Tito Don.’ Parang gumagawa siya ng paraan para makapag-usap kami also. Okay siya na may boyfriend ako pero ayaw niya ako magpakasal (laughs),” she explained.
Even though she is dating him again, Valerie admitted she wants to enjoy being officially single for now. “Actually what I wanted sana was to date other people also but he doesn’t want to. So ako parang hindi ko na alam. Wala pa rin naman akong ibang natitipuhan or nakikita so okay lang hindi ko pa pinaglalaban (laughs). Kailan darating yung panahon na yun? Naku sa pagiging persistent nito baka hindi na dumating yung panahon na yun (laughs). Hindi ko alam. I actually want to open my doors to other guys, but sa ngayon wala pang dumarating eh so I’ll just cross the bridge when I get there if may maglakas ng loob. Siyempre feeling ng iba kami pa rin ni Don so walang naglalakas loob na manligaw parang ganun so I think I will just cross the bridge when I get there,” she said.
Valerie is currently part of the ABS-CBN’s newest Primetime Bida series Eboy. “I’ll be playing the role of Olivia, isa akong singer sa isang bar sa probinsya kung saan magtatago si Ariel Rivera and Eboy which is played by Bugoy Carino and mag-fi-feeling nanay na role dito kasi ma-i-in love ako kay Ariel (laughs),“ she shared.
