ABS-CBN’s newest talent Iza Calzado went through an eight-hour workshop under the tutelage of director Laurice Guillen last February 7. It was part of her training for her first Maalaala Mo Kaya episode where she will act opposite Zanjoe Marudo this February. “I am grateful for the workshop and the opportunity to work with Direk Laurice again. I worked with her in 2002 for a film that was never shown. It was good seeing her again. She still remembered some of the things that we did before. She was working on my walk, trying to break down my habits. Ang tagal ko din talagang hindi umarte kaya kailangan ko talaga ng tulong niya,” said the talented actress in an interview with Push.com.ph.
Iza also got the chance to work on her chemistry with Zanjoe during the said workshop. Asked about her impression of him as an actor, she happily replied, “I’ve never seen him act. This is the first time I’ve seen him express himself. Pwede, pasok naman sa banga! Pinili si Zanjoe for the role kasi seaman eh, matikas, kaya bagay sa kanya.” They seemed to get along really well since they previously met in a show for another network. “Nag-meet kami dati pa sa kabila, sa isang show pero hindi acting, para sa series of activities in a day with team members.”
But Iza admitted that she was quite apprehensive about being paired with him since he’s in a relationship with Bea Alonzo. “Siyempre parang nahiya lang din ako kasi hindi ako ganon ka-close kay Bea tsaka mataas ang respeto ko sa kanya unang-una bilang babae at ikalawa bilang aktres at bilang tao. Ayoko lang ng may [awkwardness or issue]. However, I’m sure she’s a professional, she has been doing this for years so she understands.”
Is ABS-CBN brewing a bigger project for her and Zanjoe like a teleserye perhaps? “Hindi ako sure sa line-up ng project kasi it’s all up in the air kung sino ang makakasama ko. Tignan natin kung mag-work, malay mo.”
