Dingdong Dantes says he wants to travel more with girlfriend Marian Rivera next year.
After going to the US to watch Manny Pacquiao’s fight with Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas two weeks ago, Dingdong Dantes admitted he has come to accept the outcome even though he was shocked to watch it all happen as he and Marian Rivera watched from ringside. “Parang biglang tumahimik lahat ng kaluluwa, parang ganun. Parang kumalma ng hindi mo maintindihan
so dala namin yung
feeling hanggang pag-uwi. Malungkot ako dahil sa pagkatalo pero sa kabuuan,
okay lang yun
. It’s a sport,” he shared during his press con for One More Try
held at the Star Records office last December 18.
When he and Marian had to fly back after watching the fight, Dingdong said he could not contain his mixed emotions about it. “Masaya at saka malungkot. Masaya dahil nakapag-bonding kami pero sobrang kumbaga devastated dahil siyempre dun sa pagkatalo pero more importantly nakita naman natin yung fighting spirit so mas mahalaga na yun para sa akin,” he shared.
The 32-year-old said he was still happy to get the chance to spend time with Marian who has an equally busy working schedule. “Nagpapasalamat ako kasi sa eroplano pa lang nakapag-bonding na. Malaking bagay yun. yung mga ganung short trips para sa akin sobrang sulit talaga yun,” he said.
When asked to describe his longtime relationship, Dingdong said that although he and Marian are not marching down the aisle yet, they plan to go on more short trips abroad in the coming year. “Mabuti naman kami. Plans for 2013? Wala naman kasi nagtatrabaho kami eh. Wala pa masyado kasi medyo marami rin siyang ginagawa so basta definitely kung may pagkakataon naman na magkaroon ng short trips eh we will grab that opportunity. Sa Vietnam siguro, mga ganun. Asia lang muna. Pag mga matagal baka puwede sa labas, hindi pa ako nakakapuntang Italy eh. Bakasyon lang. Sana kung papayagan siya next year,” he revealed.
Dingdong said that Marian does not pressure him about when they should make wedding plans. “Wala, wala naman in all fairness kasi pareho kami ng priorities, pareho kami ng mga pananaw. Ako siyempre isa sa mga dreams ko yun pero sa proper time,” he said.
As he headlines the Star Cinema film One More Try for this year’s Metro Manila Film Fest, Dingdong said he is flattered by all the praises he has received from co-stars Angel Locsin, Angelica Panganiban, and Zanjoe Marudo. “Ganun din naman ako sa kanila, bilib ako sa kanilang tatlo. Sabi ko talaga this film has proven to me—and I’m pretty sure sa buong mundo—ang kanilang kagalingan pagdating sa acting dahil na-test talaga ang mga limits nila dito. Masarap yung pakiramdam na makatrabaho mo mga magagaling na artista like si Angelica, Angel, and Zanjoe Marudo. Kumbaga napakagaling na mga artista in their generation,” he said.
When asked to comment on Zanjoe’s statement that Dingdong is his idol when it comes to acting, the talented heartthrob chose to return the compliment to his co-star. “Eh ako madami kaming napag-uusapan ni Zanjoe and madaming bagay rin na ginagawa niya na nabibilib ako like I believe he’s a good golfer and I think I can never be one so one of these days ay magpapaturo ako sa kanya,” he said.
When asked about the issue regarding the supposed gap between his leading ladies Angelica and Angel, Dingdong said he has no idea about the matter. “Wala naman ako napapansin at nakikita so para sa akin, kung anong pinapakita nila onscreen and sa aming ginagawa sa set, yun ang mahalaga. Because I don’t see naman anything in that light,” he said.
After winning Best Actor in last year’s MMFF for his first Star Cinema project Segunda Mano, will Dingdong entertain thoughts of doing more projects with the Kapamilya network? “Nagpapasalamat ako sa magandang treatment and I love my job and everything na kaakibat nun ay mamahalin ko rin,” he replied.
