KZ Tandingan's motivation as a singer: 'I want to touch people's hearts with my songs'

111512-kz_main.jpgX Factor Philippines’ first grand winner KZ Tandingan was not bothered by the fact that the compilation album with her fellow finalists was to be released ahead of her solo album from Star Records. She said she would at least have enough time to write her own compositions that just might be included in the project. “Hindi naman po [ako nadismaya] kasi in-explain naman po nila sa akin na nung inilabas yung album, siyempre parang part din naman po ako nung album. Yun na lang po muna ang pagtuunan namin ng pansin. Tapos baka po next year ayusin na po namin yung [solo] album,” she said during the press conference for the X Factor Philippines all-star album held last November 9.

Best known for her soulful singing voice, the 20-year-old admitted that there’s pressure for her to meet other people’s expectations, especially with her landslide victory in X Factor Philippines. But she’d rather think of it as a challenge to beat her own record and come up with more songs that touch people’s lives.

Gusto ko talaga as a singer, gusto ko maka-move ng tao. Gusto ko maapektuhan ko sila in a good way [through my songs]. Gusto ko maramdaman nila yung soul [ng isang kanta]. So I am taking it as a challenge na kahit hindi ako nakakabirit, kaya ko maabot yung iba pang naabot ng mga soul artists,” explained KZ who has been getting positive feedback for her rendition of “Killing Me Softly” in the said album.

KZ has also learned how to deal with the fact that she can’t please everyone. “Simula nga po talaga na nagstart ako sa X Factor, maraming nakaka-appreciate na ako yung nanalo. Pero at the same time marami ring hindi sangayon. Pero nung una pa lang inisip ko talaga na iba-iba naman talaga ang pwedeng maging reaction ng tao. Basta ang importante, gusto kong pagbutihan itong trabahong pinasok ko.”

Other tracks included in the X Factor Philippines all-star album are “It Will Rain” by Gabriel Maturan, “All At Once” by Daddy’s Home, “Got To Be Real” by AKA Jam, “Love The Way You Lie” by Allen Jane Sta. Maria, “Kung Wala Na” by Jerriane Templo, “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Jeric Medina, “Ang Pag-ibig Kong Ito” by Joan Da, “Mahal Kita Kasi” by Kedebon Colim, “Nanghihinayang” by Mark Mabasa, “Balatkayo” by Modesto, “Stay” by Takeoff, and the bonus sound track “Star Ng Pasko” by the Final 12.
