Toni Gonzaga wants to try serious acting eventually

100612-toni_main.jpgToni Gonzaga is well known for doing romantic-comedies or rom-coms. However, the talented actress-host-singer shared in a recent interview that she had a meeting with Star Cinema to discuss the future career path that she wants to take when it comes to acting. “Sabi ko eventually as I age, I want something [that could] push myself to the limit… na something that can really challenge me and shake my core,” Toni shared. “’Yung parang, ‘Ano ‘to? Ano’ng nangyari?’ Kasi it’s really my comfort zone… ‘Yung rom-com. And I’ve done so many rom-coms already.  Parang gamay na gamay na ng sistema ko ang pag-arte ng rom-com.”

Toni is part of the Star Cinema movie This Guy’s In Love With You, Mare together with Luis Manzano and Vice Ganda. The film will open in cinemas on Wednesday, October 10.

Toni admitted that she wants to follow in the footsteps of Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock, who did several romantic-comedy movies and before delving into serious movies, like the award-winning film The Blind Side. Toni added, “Sabi ko I’d like to venture into something with depth. ‘Yung may lalim ‘yung character, it does not necessarily have to be OA [na] heavy drama … na Ate Vi (Vilma Santos) na Ate Guy (Nora Aunor). Siguro in time mapag-aaralan ko ‘yan pero sabi ko sa kanila something na in-depth, ‘yung may lalim. Kahit ganun muna, okay lang, paunti-unti. Ayoko rin kasi ng hilaw.”

On a personal note, Toni said that her relationship with director Paul Soriano is getting stronger. The couple has been together for five years and has gone through many controversies in the past. Toni said that what they have now is really stable. “It’s strong, it’s steady. Mas gusto ko siya kung nasaan siya ngayon. Mas kampante, mas secured. Tapos buo ‘yung faith, buo ‘yung foundation. Tahimik [at] di masyadong pinanghihimasukan ng mga intriga. Ano siya ngayon, [nasa] safe place.”

She related that their relationship had a lot of challenges in the first couple of years. Five years into the relationship, Toni explained that these worries have been replaced by security and the belief that they will able to surpass any challenges. “Kumbaga parang bullet-proof na ‘yung nabuo namin. Buo ‘yung relationship n’yo, alam n’yo ‘yung totoo. Hindi na kayo maaapektuhan sa nangyayari sa paligid n’yo,” said Toni.
