The film This Guy’s In Love With U, Mare under Star Cinema has already reached the P200-million mark on its second week. One of its stars, Vice Ganda, is optimistic that there is a chance that the film might match—if not surpass—the earnings of his previous hit movie The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin, which is currently considered as the top-grossing local movie of all time.
“Pwede daw kasi tinitignan nila ‘yung projection everyday,” the comedian explained. “May projection sila kung magkano ang kikitain. Dumidikit siya sa Praybeyt Benjamin tapos may isang araw na tinalo niya ‘yung gross ng [Praybeyt] Benjamin. Parang pang third day tinalo niya ‘yung kinita ng [Praybeyt] Benjamin sa third day niya.”
Vice went on to say that he feels nervous to know that his films are being pitted against each other as far as the total gross is concerned. “Sa loob ng apat na araw, naka-P100 million na ‘yung This Guy’s…, eh ‘yung Praybeyt [Benjamin] naka-P100 million siya sa fifth day niya kaya parang tatalunin nito ang [Praybeyt] Benjamin,” added Vice.
Vice said he is also happy that the movie is getting positive reviews. “Bukod dun sa malaking kinikita, andaming magagandang reviews ‘yung sinasabi ng mga tao. Bukod sa nakakatawa, maganda ang istorya at totoo ‘yung pangyayari. Nagustuhan nila, maganda ang pagkakagawa,” he beamed.
In connection to this, some people are saying that Vice might get the title Phenomenal Box Office Star for the second time in a row, which he first earned for his record-breaking film The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin in 2011. Phenomenal Box-Office Star is a new category created by Guillermo Mendoza Scholarship Foundation for the Box Office Entertainment Awards to honor Vice for his success.
‘Yung matapos lang namin nang matiwasay ‘yung pelikula na walang naging problema… as in never kaming nagkaproblema at all, ang saya-saya. Tapos ‘yung kumita, maraming nagandahan pinanood nang paulit-ulit, ‘yung nag-pay off lahat ng pinagtrabahuhan namin.”
While This Guy’s In Love With U, Mare is a comedy, the movie’s director, Wenn Deramas admitted that the concept of the movie is not far from reality. The story is about a man who leaves his gay lover to be with a girl. Even Vice admitted that the film is close to his heart because there are scenes in the movie that he can relate to.
“Kahit ilang beses ko nang napanood mayroong certain scenes doon na kapag napanood ko umiiyak pa rin ako. ‘Yung nag-sorry sa akin si Luis Manzano [sa eksena] naiyak ako doon. Last scene na ginawa namin last shooting day nang tapos na ‘yung eksena nung pag-uwi ko sa van iyak ako nang iyak,” he related. While he was being emotional, Vice said that Luis called him up and asked why he was crying. “Sabi ko [kay Luis] ‘yun ‘yung eksaktong mga salita na gustong marinig ng isang bakla sa dati niyang dyowa.”
For his next project, Vice will star with Kris Aquino and Ai-Ai de las Alas for the Metro Manila Film Fest entry, Sisteraka.
