As part of the new independent film Death March, Jason Abalos plays the role of one of the 60,000 Filipino soldiers who became prisoners of war by the Japanese army in the Philippines during World War II. “Isa ako sa mga sundalo dun. Madaming mangyayari, may mga makakatakas, may mga namatay. Seryoso kasi yung movie, tungkol sa panahon ng Hapon ito tapos ang medyo parang unrealistic yung setting kasi puro drawing tapos black and white, pero sobrang ganda.” he shared.
In the movie, Jason’s co-stars include Sam Milby and Zanjoe Marudo, as well Carlo Aquino, Ejay Falcon, Felix Roco, and Luis Alandy.
The 27 year-old admitted he did not find it hard to prepare for the role because of his grandfather’s experiences during the war.
After making his mark in indie films like last year’s Thelma as well as Adela and Endo, the Death March actor admitted that regardless whether he is doing a mainstream or independent film, he takes each role seriously. Kaya dapat talaga intindihin mo yung role mo,” he said.
When not busy with showbiz commitments, Jason revealed he tries to take care of his health by keeping fit and maintaining a good diet. “Pag may work, kain, tulog lang (laughs). Hindi na ako madalas mag-basketball. Siguro mga once or twice a week na lang,” he admitted.
After his breakup with fellow Kapamilya Jewel Mische earlier this year, Jason said it is still too early for him to get into another relationship as of now. “Ayun, ayos lang. Happy naman. Wala akong dini-date, wala talaga. Wala promise,” he said.
