Marvin Agustin dreams of bringing bands like U2 and Coldplay to the Philippines

<img src='' alt='010712-marvin-main.jpg' align='left' border='0' height='290' width='305'>After reprising his role as Ai-Ai De las Alas’s eldest son in the Metro Manila Film Fest blockbuster Enteng Ng Ina Mo, Marvin Agustin said he is looking forward to working on more projects in front of and behind the camera this year. “I still have my restaurant business and then I’m expanding the concert production to entertainment production which is TV, movies, and other media,” he shared. The 32-year-old actor has already been engaged in producing concerts for over two years now and has been responsible for bringing in foreign acts like Black Eyed Peas, Maroon 5, and Miley Cyrus. Marvin said that part of his concert wish list include acts like Madonna and his favorite bands Coldplay and U2. “Matutwa ang mga kapatid ko at mama ko if ever si Madonna. Hindi ko alam, hindi ko sinasabing kami magdadala sa kanya dito pero if ever that would happen, even just to be an audience lang with my family. She’s my family’s favorite. I guess lahat naman ng mga Pinoy sino ba namang hindi favorite si Madonna? My dream talaga is U2. It’s just that stadium ang kailangan nila eh and we don’t have a stadium yet. I’m also a fan of Coldplay. I’m a fan of Justin Timberlake. Marami akong gusto. I’m a music lover,” he says during the FTX Gym opening last January 5 in Salcedo Village, Makati. Marvin admitted he derives fulfillment from being a concert producer. “It’s not really about the business because for me it’s about making Filipinos happy, making their dreams come true for something. Like bringing the Black Eyed Peas, Maroon 5, Miley Cyrus sa mga bata. Mga acts na kung hindi mo dadalhin dito, a lot of Filipinos can’t really travel abroad or outside the Philippines to watch their idols. Masyadong mahal if we go to Hong Kong, Singapore, US, or Europe to watch our favorite acts so I guess in that aspect nakakatulong, nakakapagpasaya. When we bring them here and then pag nag-perform na, pagtingin mo sa likod everyone’s dancing, everyone’s singing, that’s a fulfillment talaga na nakaka-addict na parang you’re hosting a party for the Filipinos,” he explained. The actor said he does not believe that bringing in foreign acts takes away the audience from local performers. “No, that’s not true. Ganun kagaling ang OPM, ganun ang Filipino artista. Kahit gaano karaming foreign artists dumating dito, hindi mapapalitan ang OPM. That serves actually as an inspiration to Filipino artists, they actually love to see their idols come here. Mga fanatics din kami. Maski ako, artista ako, fanatic ako ng mga foreign acts. So sila rin, whenever I get to talk to them, ang ganda pa nga kasi parang napu-push sila na gawin pang mas maganda yung mga acts nila. Because ang daming acts dito na pumupunta and they have to give Filipinos more entertaining shows and concerts. It’s actually a challenge for them,” he said. Aside from producing concerts, Marvin Agustin also wants to get into producing movies this year.
