Patrick Garcia believed that he was meant to return to ABS-CBN after his last teleserye on another network was cut short. It was all about perfect timing since he was apparently offered a chance to return as a Kapamilya artist twice in the past. “Actually, I just did a project in GMA-7, it was shortened lang. Parang ABS-CBN lang yun, parang lahat [ng cast members dun] taga-ABS-CBN [din dati]. I think it’s time to come back. After Iglot, natapos na din kontrata ko. There’s an offer [from ABS-CBN] before, but I had a contract at that time. And then this came along through director Lauren Dyogi,” said Patrick during the press con of Lumayo Ka Man Sa Akin last January 17.
Although he doesn’t have an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN yet, Patrick is considering doing a movie with the network if given the chance. “There is a movie but I can’t say because it’s not sure yet. And I’ve always liked doing projects one at a time. I don’t like getting ngarag or puyat. Feeling ko yung concentration ko nawawala ‘pag ganon. But yeah, I’m happy to be back. Everyone has given me a warm welcome.”
Patrick further shared that he got along easily with co-stars Maja Salvador and Jason Abalos who managed to bring out his lighter side. “First time ko to work with Jason. Pero si Maja, we worked together sa Komiks. But when we worked before medyo we were younger, now more mature na kami. We’re doing kissing scenes, pero si Jason lang ang nagtanggal ng damit so far. Si Jason hindi pa nagkikita yung character namin so hindi pa kami nagkakatrabaho. Yun ang inaabangan pa namin. Okay naman, makulit sa set. Lagi akong tahimik e, pero napapadaldal naman nila ako.”
On a different note, Patrick clarified that he has no problem dealing with Luis Manzano, who is the current beau of his ex-girlfriend Jennylyn Mercardo. He added that it didn’t affect his decision to do a project in ABS-CBN again. “Hindi naman [ako nagkaroon ng second thoughts]. Luis wasn’t a factor at all for me to decide [if I’m going to transfer or not]. Matagal na kaming hiwalay ni Jen. Actually, naging sila ni Dennis Trillo and then now si Luis. Jen has the right to be with whoever she wants to be with. She deserves to be happy. Whoever she wants to be with, wala ako dun, that’s her private life. Basta masaya si Jen, okay sa akin.”
Patrick maintained that there’s no reason for him to feel awkward around Luis since there has never been an ill will between them. “Hindi naman kami talaga close ni Luis. Pero magkakilala kami noon pa. We were both part of Kampanerang Kuba, so nagkatrabaho kami dun. We’ve always known each other. Wala naman kaming samaan ng loob or ilangan. And then last Saturday we had an interview in E-Live. Okay naman.”
Patrick also explained that he’s on good terms with Jen and that he’s allowed to visit their son Jazz anytime he wants. “We hardly see each other. If ever na magkakausap kami, over the phone lang. I’d call her whenever I’d make paalam to see Jazz. Dati hati [kami kung saan mag-stay si Jazz]. But we’ve decided not to do that anymore for the sake of the kid. Dapat isang bahay lang ang kilala niya so dun na lang siya sa bahay ni Jen. And I go there as much as I can. Jen lets me visit naman kahit kailan ko gusto, huwag lang siguro madaling araw. Okay naman yung bonding namin ni Jazz. I just hope Jen and I can be good parents kahit na hindi kami magkasama.”
