Shamcey Supsup on her Filipino supporters: 'Iba po yung tama sa puso'

092011-shamcey-main.jpgMiss Universe third runner-up Shamcey Supsup was given a grand hero’s welcome in different parts of the metro on September 19 after making her countrymen proud by placing in the prestigious pageant last Sept 13. Shamcey, who arrived in Manila last September 18, even made a courtesy call to President Noynoy Aquino that night, for the latter was set to leave for an official trip to the US the following day.

The beauty queen was full of energy as she tackled one victory parade after another, the first one being in Makati City, then at the Araneta Center, followed by visits to the Quezon City Hall and a ceremony at her college alma matter, University of the Philippines in Diliman. She was also given an outstanding citizen award by the City of Taytay, Rizal, where she has been a resident since 1992. Today, September 20, she will be off to General Santos City, her hometown, where another grand welcome awaits her.
In an interview with Korina Sanchez on TV Patrol, Shamcey said she is overwhelmed by the Filipinos response to her win. “Grabe po hanggang ngayon, ‘di ako makapaniwala na ganoon sila ka-supportive of me. Kahit lumalabas ako, may sumisigaw, iba po yung tama sa puso, masayang-masaya po ako ngayonMedyo pagod lang po dahil sunod-sunod activities ko since yesterday pero ‘pag nakikita ko po ‘yung mga tao kumakaway, sumisigaw, nabibigyan ako ng energy kahit papano.

When asked about her future plans, Shamcey was consistent in saying she still intends to pursue a career in architecture. “I’m not definite on my decision, but since I’m with Binibining Pilipinas pa din, I’m in contract with them, we have this project nga with Gawad Kalinga in Tanay, that’s what I am excited about. We are trying to build shelters for the victims of Ondoy. Aside from that just last night I was told by Mar Roxas about this design for the NAIA Terminal 3 and he wants me to be involved with it. So ‘yun po, I’m really looking forward to that, kasi I never thought that through this beauty pageant I’ll be able to be involved in these kinds of projects which I really wanted before pa.”

Korina asked Shamcey who taught her her signature “tsunami walk” and the stunner humbly said that a lot of people trained her to walk that way.  “Madami po nagtuturo sa ‘kin. Dito pa lang iba-iba na ang trainers ko, so halo-halo na po lahat yan, kumbaga pinagsama-sama ko na lahat kung saan ako kumportable. So ‘yun po ang result.” Shamcey mentioned in the interview that as a runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant, she received a trophy and a cash prize. Shamcey also added that she believes she placed in the Top Five because of her determination and her drive to give pride to the country.

When asked if her father Timoteo will be meeting with her boyfriend Lloyd Lee when she returns home, Shamcey could only answer, “There’s a right time for that.”
