Piolo admits he enjoys working out not just to maintain his physique but also to keep him healthy and fit.
After winning the badminton doubles event at the annual Star Magic Games this year, Piolo Pascual admits that he enjoys working out not just to maintain the drool-worthy body we see in billboards all around the metro, but also to keep him healthy and fit. “Happy day ang badminton days for me. Namatayan na nga ako ng kuko because of badminton (laughs). I went back to playing just recently actually because na-injure yung mata ko, so I didn’t get to play for a year. One time sa taping may mga na-pa-pack up na araw so I took the chance to practice again. My eye is permanently injured actually. My vision is okay naman, na-compromise pero kaya naman, nakikita naman. It’s irreversible, but I’m happy about it kasi akala ko hindi na ako makakalaro pero okay naman,” he shares with Push.com.ph
Aside from badminton, Piolo is also known for being an advocate of running as a sport. The heartthrob also shared with Push.com.ph that he was originally planning to join the New York marathon this year until scheduling conflicts forced him to postpone it to next year. Piolo also has plans to train for triathlons in the future. But for now, the matinee idol chooses to focus on running. “My running coach is Jojo Macalintal. I used to train with him once or twice a week. Pag hindi kami nagkikita, I just go on my own with my friends or household almost every other day. I really enjoy it,” he adds.
Piolo, who led the opening ceremonies for the Star Magic Games held at the Colegio de San Agustin (CSA) in Makati, believes in the importance of holding annual events like that for him and his fellow celebrities. “It’s important because it tests the capability of every artist, on how sporty and athletic they are. It’s good because we get to bond, everyone is unguarded and without makeup, we don’t have to prepare, we just have to come as ourselves and hindi kami yun kailangan may dala. It’s really a fun day. Lahat pinagpapawisan, everyone is just having fun. And the more important thing here is we get to bond, even the kids. We played badminton last year and we lost so this time nanalo so okay naman,” he admits.
