Erich Gonzales admits she feels pressured about reprising Thalia's role in 'Maria la Del Barrio'

080611-erich-main.jpgWith the August 15 premiere of Maria la Del Barrio on ABS-CBN, Erich Gonzales admitted she has mixed emotions about how people will react to her version of Maria Hernandez, a role popularized by Mexican superstar Thalia in the original version of the series. “Kahit andun yung kaba at pressure, excited pa din ako at the same time kasi finally mapapanuod na namin. Kahit kami rin nag-antay. So masaya kami ngayon. Yung pressure hindi naman talaga nawawala yun. Yung cast napaka-supportive nila tapos yung directors namin talagang team kami dito and basta pinapagbutihan namin yung trabaho namin and at the same time we’re having fun, super fun,” she shared.

Erich hopes that fans of the original series will not make comparisons because their version has been localized for the Filipino audience. We just promise na kung nagustuhan talaga nila yung original, dito rin mamahalin nila yung version natin,” she added.

The series, which was originally slated for release earlier this year, was pushed back to a later date because of some additions to the script which required permission from Televisa, the Mexican multi-media production company which owns the rights to the show. Even though Maria La Del Barrio took longer than expected, Erich said it will definitely be worth the wait. “Naging matagal dahil madaming inayos at in-adjust sa script tapos maraming dinagdag. Ipapalabas na,” she added.

The 20-year-old actress said she never entertained the thought that the project might be cancelled after its premiere telecast was delayed a few months back. Salamat talaga sa kanila,” she explained.

Although there have been additions to the original storyline, Erich said she does not mind having to portray a more mature version of Maria. “If there’s one thing na aabangan nila, it’s yung story talaga. From the very beginning naman, yung role na binigay sa amin, in-explain na. So siyempre andun pa rin yung guidance ng directors namin,” she said.

After facing intrigues this past year, Erich said she would rather focus on work at the moment. “Basta ang mindset talaga namin. Work, work, work.

Erich also reacted to reports that she is the top choice to be Thai heartthrob Mario Maurer’s leading lady in a future project. “Sobrang
