Newbie actress Laureen Uy says her onscreen role in 'My Binondo Girl' isn't far from her in real life.
More popularly known in showbiz circles as the younger sister of celebrity stylist Liz Uy, newcomer Laureen Uy admitted she is still getting used to being in front of the camera. The 21-year-old actress said that she surprised a lot of her friends when they found out she was making her acting debut in My Binondo Girl.
“Everyone knows naman
that I’m the younger sister of Liz who is very close with Ate
Kris Aquino. Nung isang
party sinama ako ni Ate tapos linoko-loko ako nila
sir Deo Edrinal. I just attended the workshop then tumagal nakita nila na
okay naman daw tapos ayun ang suwerete ko nasali na ako sa
show,” she told Push.com.ph
The Fil-Chinese fashionista, who is also an active blogger, admitted that it was really an advantage for her that she also knew how to speak Fookien and Mandarin. She said she was excited and nervous when she first found out about the role. “Siyempre napakasaya ko. Parang
in my head naisip ko na, ‘Sigurado ba kayo na gusto niyo na ito ibigay sa akin?
’ knowing na lahat ng kasama ko
is big actors like Kim Chiu, Ai-Ai De las Alas, Cherry Pie Picache, and Gina Pareño. Sobra akong
privileged and for me, I consider this to really be a big opportunity to show my skills, to learn more and para makatrabaho ko sila lahat, parang
dream na yun para sa akin na nandito na ako ngayon,
” she admitted to Push.com.ph.
Laureen plays the role of Amethyst Sy, the half-sister of Jade Dimaguiba, who is played by Kim. Laureen said she feels very lucky to have such a nice co-star. “Sobrang bait niya. Kami kasi
usually yung magkasama sa
dressing room so super may-I-chika yan. Kahit pagod na si
Kim, laging nakangiti, ang saya saya. Pag nasa
set naman, yun masaya kahit na puyatan na, madaling araw na, lahat ng tao
alive pa rin dahil nagtatawanan lagi basta laging masaya sa
” she shared.
When it comes to playing Amethyst, Laureen revealed she did not have a hard time relating to her first onscreen role. “She’s actually very close kasi
to how I am in real life. She’s a girl aspiring to be a fashion designer and mahilig siyang magdamit. Bata pa tapos mahilig matuto ng mga bagong
stuff, so parang ako din yun
in real life. I have a blog and I own a clothing business so hindi ako masyado nahihirapan
and the same time, natututo ako kasi siyempre yung mga
emotion na pinapakita, iyak, tawa, galit, lahat nandun.
So yun, natututo naman ako. Ang pinakamadalas na kasama ko sa
scenes is si
Papa Chen (newcomer Richard Yap) and si
Mama Jane (Cherry Pie Picache) bilang sila yung
Yuan who is Kim Chiu as a guy,” she explained.
After growing up being exposed to the entertainment industry, Laureen said she had always wanted to give showbiz a try. “Actually when I was young I really wanted to enter showbiz but coming from a half-Chinese family, they wanted me to study first and graduate. So when I graduated, yun
, I was given the chance to do workshops and everything kaya sobrang saya ko na napasok ako sa My Binondo Girl.
Since growing up yung Ate ko at Kuya ko nasa
magazine industry na
, so medyo naging
open na yung
with the media industry, so nung pumasok ako sa
showbiz hindi na sila masyado nahirapan. Parang
supportive naman sila
all the way,” she explained.
