New Kapamilya artist Maria Aragon is looking forward to her series of activities during her two-month stay in Manila.
Best known for her cover of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way
” on YouTube, Filipino-Canadian child wonder Maria Aragon is all set to start on her album with Star Records soon. The 11-year-old arrived in Manila last July 20 and is scheduled to appear on various Kapamilya shows until September. “Right now I am going to record an album with Star Records which will include songs such as ‘Born This Way’
and ‘Kung Bubuksan Mo Lang Ang Puso.
’ Hopefully, I am going to guest-star in some shows and do more performances for the Filipino audience.”
When asked if she plans to stay for good in the Philippines, Maria said that it’s too early for her to decide at this point in time. “I know, I haven’t been really around. So I think I’d have to see the country first. But I think this is really a beautiful place and this is where my family grew up so I’d love to get to know it first.” However, she’s looking forward to possible collaborations with some of her favorite Filipino singers like Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez, and Arnel Pineda. “I know a lot. And it would be great if I get the chance to meet them.”
Maria rose to fame when Lady Gaga saw the former’s video on YouTube and then tweeted about how moved she was to be an inspiration to such a young aspiring singer. “Can't stop crying watching this. This is why I make music. She is the future.” Soon after that, Lady Gaga invited Maria to perform “Born This Way” with her during a concert in Canada last March. Maria appeared on various Hollywood talk shows since then and was even tapped to perform the national anthem during Prince William and Kate Middleton’s recent visit to Canada.
When asked how she feels about her new found fame, Maria shared that it has inspired her to be a good role model for other aspiring artists. “It changed my life in a lot of different ways. You have to kind of sacrifice some things to do performances. Our schedules are really busy. A lot of people know me now worldwide, so we have to be more careful in anything that we do. Another thing is that I feel so blessed to be given these opportunities and I hope that my experience will also inspire others to follow their dreams,” she added.
