Aiko Melendez admits she almost didn't accept her kontrabida role in Reputasyon

071611-aiko-main.jpgAfter her stint as a city councilor, Aiko Melendez finally decided to return to showbiz fulltime via the Kapamilya afternoon teleserye Reputasyon. In the new series, Aiko plays her first antagonist role as Catherine Villamayor, the embittered widow of the late Governor Bernard Villamayor, whom the lead character Agnes (played by Cristine Reyes) is accused of having an affair with.

Aiko admitted that she had some reservations before she accepted the role. This is the first time I’m going to play that kind of role. Sabi ko ayoko sana, parang hesitant ako. Pero nung prinisent na sa akin, after hearing what my role and the story is all about nung buong casting talaga, hindi ko pa natatapos pakinggan yung story sabi ko I’ll do it na,” she shared during the Reputasyon presscon held last July 12 at the ABS-CBN compound.

The 35-year-old actress, who was last seen in a Maalala Mo Kaya episode earlier this year, shared that her role is not purely evil. “Siguro may adjustments pa rin ako when it comes to sa role ko ngayon. Kasi this is something new thing for me. Lagi naman ako nakikita na mabait. In this one naman bago yung role ko kasi kontrabida ako tapos mayroon pa rin yung time na maaawa yung tao sa akin. Ang daming twists nung character ko kaya when it was offered to me, parang hindi ko pa natatapos yung buong plot ng story, I accepted the role na,” she explained.

Aiko also denied the issue that she was disappointed to find out that Reputasyon would not be aired on primetime.

Aiko also answered the issue that the reason she went back to showbiz is to save up for her candidacy in the 2013 National and Local elections. Basta ang priority ko ngayon and ang na-miss ko talaga is yung magkaroon ng soap and then to be back in showbiz. Baka ito nayung senyales na dito muna ako manatili sa show business,” she said.
