Rising band Chiro lands an album deal with Star Records

After winning in the Nokia Music Connection, four-piece rock band Chiro got another big break courtesy of Star Records. Chiro is the latest act to land an album deal with the country’s leading record company. During the press launch of their self-titled debut album, the band performed a few cuts, original and covers alike. Their debut single is entitled “Pahiwatig,” and they also have versions of the APO Hiking Society’s “Batang Bata Ka Pa” and Florante’s “Handog.”

Vocalist Toni Rose Reynes described how Chiro (pronuounced as “kee-ro”) is different from other local bands. “Ang music fusion ng lahat ng naririnig niyo ngayon. Para acoustic na mas mabigat, mas edgy. We want to offer a fresh sound sa band scene. We want to be one of those acts respected for putting out intelligent music, not disposable songs with appeal that don’t last that long.”

Other members of this band from Angeles, Pampanga include Toni’s brother, Ivan Louis Reynes on drums, Faelmar Ocampo on guitar, and Erick Gabriel on bass. They shared that they consider their musical idols as Barbie Almalbis, Cynthia Alexander, Sugarfree, Eraserheads, and Francis M.

Chiro’s elf-titled prepaid digital debut album will be released this July at Astrovision, Odyssey, and SM Record Bars. To redeem the digital album, log on to www.starmagic.ph. Individual tracks may already be downloaded from www.starrecords.ph, and soon on iTunes and Amazon.com.
