Jake Cuenca on Melissa Ricks: 'I really hope we can be friends'

060311-jake_main.jpgLast Wednesday, June 1, Jake Cuenca arrived from the US after the special screening of his movie with Aga Muhlach and Angel Locsin, In The Name of Love. The actor related how overwhelmed they were with the resounding reception of overseas Filipino workers and TFC (The Filipino Channel) subscribers to their movie. “Pagdating pa lang namin excited na sila. ‘Yung hype din ng pelikula na ang daming nagsasabi nga [na maganda] siguro salamat din sa sinasabi ng mga tao na maganda ang pelikula namin,” he said.

Jake continued that he feels privileged to be part of a film now considered to be one of the top 10 top-grossing movies of Star Cinema. “Oo nga, eh sinasabi ko lagi napakasuwerte ko na napasama ako sa pelikulang ito. Nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon at nagtiwala din sa akin ang ABS-CBN para ilagay ako sa pelikulang ito. Ang tagumpay ng pelikula ay tagumpay talaga ng Star Cinema at ABS-CBN.”

Jake earned positive reviews for his acting in the said movie and said director Olivia Lamasan helped him give his best. “Sobrang binantayan niya talaga ako, tinutukan talaga niya ako at higit sa lahat, napakarami kong natutunan na maia-apply ko sa lahat ng iba-iba kong trabaho at gagawin in the future.” He added that from now on he will consult Direk Olive every time he has a new role.

Jake appeared uncomfortable when he was asked about the recent announcement that he and Melissa Ricks made about their breakup. “Kung anong amin, amin na lang ‘yon. She’s emotional right now, I’d rather console her personally than console her on TV.”

He said that the love and concern for Melissa will always remain and that she will always have a special place in his heart. “Like I always say, I really hope we can be friends. Sana hindi masira, sana andun lang lagi ang friendship kasi before we started, we used to be friends.”

The actor refused to expound on the issue of claims that their breakup was caused by a third party. “Sa kanya (Melissa) na naman nanggaling, she said it already, I’m saying it also ang detalye sa relationship, [sa] amin na lang siguro ‘yon. I don’t want to go into detail kasi kung anuman ang amin, amin na ‘yon,” he repeated. “Naging general na kami, we announced that we have broken up, we’re still friends and we’re not going into detail anymore.”
